I'd like the A* 400mm f/2.8 lens. The existing ones are rare as hens teeth and a long fast prime would be nice.

I think the 60-250, or a 70-200 F4.
The DFA 70-200 is a fantastic lens. But it's big, heavy and expensive. A lighter, WR, fast-focusing option would be great. 60-250 ticks a lot of those boxes, but the focusing is slow compared to the newer lenses.

1. Completely redo the 16-50 2.8.

2. Redo the focusing motor on the 50-135. I actually don't care about the coating, I think that lens has wonderful rendition as is. (Yes I know Pentax has perhaps tweaked the SDM over time but since they haven't communicated about it who cares)

3. Actually I'm good with just those changes.

I believe several of DA* lenses have SP and Aero Bright coatings, which are superior to HD coating.
Not sure if all of them have these coatings.

SP for better protection on the front lens and Aero Bright for better resistance against flare.
On D FA* lenses they have started to use Aero Bright II coating, so it probably what will be used on future DA* lenses

I'd like to see the DA* lenses refreshed with a different AF motor. HD and SP coatings would be nice, and I guess they'd get that by default, since SMC is no longer available. For the DA*16-50, some additional work on the optical design would be nice, as it trails behind third party lenses such as the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 in terms of optical performance. As for the DA*60-250... I'd love to see that refreshed too, but I'd prefer it be replaced with a newer design that doesn't suffer quite so badly from focus breathing. It's one of my favourite longer lenses in terms of optical performance and out-of-focus rendering, but the focus breathing is a bear, and means I usually carry the HD 1.4x rear converter with it if I know I'll be shooting subjects at close range. That combo works extremely well, but loses a stop of light, so it's not ideal...

The 16-50 needs to be completely redone. It doesn't even compete with the 17-50s of sigma or tamron, which are more reliable to boot.

If I had to pick a new star lens, I'd love to see a D FA ★135mm f1.8 ED DC AW. Would be an astro dream.

DA* 300/f4. Update it with some new coatings, and KAF 4. I'd still never be able to afford it, but would be nice to see a refresh of it.

Just before the people at Ricoh start thinking there's no love for the wonderful Hirakawa design: smc PENTAX-DA★ 55mm F1.4 SDM. Please update this one with the newer coatings and a reliable SDM and keep its price noticeably under that of the full-frame HD Pentax-D FA★ 50mm F1.4 SDM AW. The update would address the lens's proneness to flare and SDM failure and would make it a desirable option for APS-C shooters, who could avoid the bulk of its great full-frame cousin. I would save up for that one.
