For me, it's a tie between the 15mm and 43mm. Those two are all I go out with quite often.

I appreciate that others here cherish the older lenses as I do. For me the value of any focal length prime depends on the format being used and I love to use the wide aperture lenses from the past. For AF APSC the FA 50/1.4 is indispensible. However, on a full frame I can't do without the K 85/1.8 and the K 50/1.2 is close.

FA 77mm F1.8 and DA* 300mm F4.

When I get the DFA 85mm F whatever*, I expect that to make up a three way tie.

*85mm F anything under F2 will make me happy. Doesn't have to be F1.4 at that focal length.

I use my primes mainly on FF film photography and there my all time favorite is the M 35 / 2.8. I like it's field of view, which for me produces a more natural view then other lenses.

On APS-C digital I am mainly using my 16-50 / 2.8 Tamron which is so good an versatile, I seldomly need any prime. Then it's the A 50 / 1.7 or the Sigma EX DG 70 / 2.8 macro. The first one for being a wonderfull portait and more lens, easy to use with a bright viewfinder, the second because it is a perfect macro, both a joy to use.

For balance, feel and output quality, the A50/1.4 gets my vote, along with the (K) SMC40/2.8 when I want to go a little wider and really small!

As Dave mentioned the 10-17 fisheye above, I’d raise you the stack o’primes 20-40...

For the better part of this year the FA77mm f/1.8 Limited has been my favored lens on the K-1. The Pentax 50mm f/1.2 has also seen frequent use on the K5IIs. Coincidentally, both lenses are roughly equivalent on their respective formats.

For me definitely HD Pentax-DA 1:4 15mm Limited. Love the small size, lens hood and screw type lens cap. Excellent colours and rendering.

My favourite Pentax prime is the SMC DA 35mm f/2.8 macro limited - a wonderful lens and suitable for just about every photographic application, and image quality to die for.

I also use some Fujifilm gear and my favourite lens is the 35mm f/1.4 - again wonderful IQ and very flexible, no macro but the two stops of extra speed make it great for shallow DoF and night photography. Very, very nearly as good as the Limited.

I have some decent primes, the DA 35mm 2.4 (my favorite), the DA 50mm 1.8, and the Limited 15mm 4.0. I'm considering saving up to buy a real nice prime, maybe the Limited 31 or 55 1.4, but I'm wondering what your favorite lenses are. Not necessarily limited to the Pentax line.

I'm not necessarily looking for advice on what to choose, I just want to know what you all enjoy using and for what situations!

Favourite prime? Well, among the three primes I own -- smc DA15 and DA35 Limiteds, smc DA50 -- I find it hard to pick a clear favourite. Every once in a while, I start thinking that this or that lens is somehow lacking. Then I consciously use it more and experience its particular brand of awesomeness. The lens that tends to surprise me most in that respect is the smc DA35 Limited. I guess I sometimes just shy away from using it because it forces me to compose without relying on easy-to-achieve wideangle or telephoto effects. But as a matter of fact, I wouldn't want to miss any of the three:

DA21 for that "eye view" on APSC
FA100 f2.8 now on the K3II almost full-time.
DA300 is brilliant.
