K200D only on auto

We bought a K200D at the weekend. Love it! One of the reasons we stayed with Pentax is the lens compatibility. We have a bagful of film cameras and are looking forward to using the FA28-70 and F100-300 lenses from the MZ5. They work on Auto but when the aperture ring is clicked to a fixed value the LCD on the camera just blinks F-- and will not respond. Shutter button locked. Makes no difference to put onto MF or P or M. Camera only seems to recognize the lens when it is on Auto. Have I missed an important page in The Book? Am willing to be humble - I'd just like to use the lenses!

The link posted above should help if you ever want to use a lens without an "A" position on the aperture ring. But it sounds like your lenses do, so really, you should just use it. There is no reaosn to move the ring from that position. When you want to set aperture yourself, use Av or M mode.

Apologies for late reply. Thank you for yours. Yes, the Customs Setings is the place. I do have a favourite Takuma close up lens which I am looking forward tousing but I am STILL waiting for the supplier to get the screw mount? k mount adaptor to give it a burl. One thing is certaian - its a pleasure to just leave the newer lenses on "A".

Thank you for the info. I am still waiting for the adaptor to fit a much loved Takumar macro onto the K200D. The links to the tutorial were just the job.

I too have the K200 and had the same problem when I bought my first manual lens a while back.
