Thank you both. Can anyone tell me what that lens is for? We are taking our son to Disneyland next month and I want to take loads of shots. Especially when he is on a ride and is fairly far away. Will I need the other lens for that? Is the supplied lens sufficient? Sorry for the lame questions but this is sort if important for me!
Disneyland? 18-250. What you describe requires a lens longer than 55mm, and I think you will find swapping lenses very inconvenient.

Take a look at this thread for sample pictures:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/34470-please-r...50mm-lens.html

Whatever you decide to get, I suggest getting it soon enough to allow you to go on a trial run at the local zoo before your vacation.

Cheers,

I have the 55-300 and absolutely LOVE it, but as others have mentionned for family snapshots (like going to disney with the kids), I am sure that replacing the 18-50 with the 18-250 is more than good enough.

When taking family snaps, practicality often is the most important factor in chosing a lens. You don't want to start walking around with a huge camera bag and change lenses all the time while you are at disney, so a "do it all" lens like the 18-250 is probably your best bet.

Just my 2 cents worth

Take a look at the Tamron focal length comparison tool. Make sure the Digital option is selected and then move the slider from 18 to 300 to see the effect on the photo

Just make sure the zoom lock is on before you go on any rides!
