Hi, Does anyone know anything about the Sigma DG 70-300mm lens? I'm looking at one that's up for auction. Appears to be a Pentax mount but I can't tell for sure. I'd be using it on my K-5. I already have a Pentax 70-300mm DA and was curious as how the two compare. Thanks, Jim

Thats nikon mount!

Lots of 70-300/75-300mm sigmas around, lots of variants - several listed in the reviews. You should be able to find a PKA or KAF mount one for a good price pretty easily. FYI:

I have a mf 70-300mm but it's hazed so can't comment on performance.

Marcus beat me too it! Does not look like Pentax to me.

BTW I have a Sigma DG APO 70-300 which I use with my K-1. I must post a review soon, but in summary:
* I got it mainly because of its FF compatibility and it being cheap second hand. Also have a DA-L 55-300, which actually performs "ok" on FF from about 100 - 300.
* Optically the Sigma stacks up pretty well against the Pentax (unsurprisingly the Sigma is better on FF, as the DA was not designed for FF) and I have already got plenty of keepers from the sigma
* Size wise the Pentax is a little smaller but not by much as its mainly just the diameter of the Sigma is bigger (and maybe a little less length than Pentax when zoom and focus in most compact position).
* On the other hand the build quality of the Sigma is not as good. The zoom is not smooth (sticks a bit sometimes) on my copy at least.

on a crop-sensor camera, it's hard to beat the performance of the DA 55-300mm lenses...

I have the DA L version and compared it to the Sigma APO DG 70-300 zoom I had.... and sold the Sigma...

Since it's a Nikon mount I guess it won't work on my K-5. :>( I guess I should tell my neighbor since they have a Nikon. Jim

I e-mailed the seller and it was confirmed as a Nikon F mount. Jim

I have this lens, the DG, that I picked up for $32. While it has some negative, like focus and CA, overall I it produces some nice images and I find myself using it quite often in my K-2S. If you find one under $50 it's definitely worth getting.
