HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR

I've taken a new interest in this lens. Here are some sample shots from my walk this morning. Slightly edited in Photos, mostly just adding some clarity and cropping.

I find mine tricky to get the best out of. I've done lovely shots of insects and things like that using it as a tele-macro, but it's never produced anything outstanding from a distance. I've been eyeing a 60-250 for that reason, and for the noise aspect. I like the noise, but birds don't apparently!

This lens was not made for closeup work in mind, but I've found mine to perform well enough for that as long as I am not trying to get too close with it. Yes, the noise is there, but if one can get a good bird shot from a distance from which the bird doesn't feel threatened, it is quite effective. I've gotten some good shots from it of birds and other small animals.

I agree, the focus is loud. After I used this lens for a while, I bought the "plm" version, and I am very happy with it.
