50-135 mm/f2.8 used for 600 € or new for 850 €?

I currently have the choice of getting a 50-135mm/f2.8 for either 600 € used, or 850 € new. In addition, due to the large distance between seller and me, I am not able to check the objective prior to buying. Would that still be a good deal, or should I rather go for the new objective?
Thanks!

I would get this lens new with warranty, so that you're covered should the AF fail.

For a used 50-135, 600€ is waay too much. I bought mine for 350€ (with no signs of sdm failure since having it) , but see them regularly for 450€ or less. Good deals can be had on the bay with a bit of patience.

Is this with SDM? I had problems with the older SDM's... The newer series had to be better.

I've also seen the lens for around 400€. Currently, a couple of them on Ebay.de: one for 409, two for 449. Two of these come with a 1-year warranty... I'd say either keep looking or get the new one.
