A scratch on my limited...

Man what a lousy feeling. It's not on the glass itself, but on the lens hood that pulls out. It's maybe 2mm big and not visible from afar, but just knowing there is a scratch on my lens.. have no idea how it got there, but I guess it just normal wear and tear, pretty hard to avoid.

I'm guessing its black paint on the lens hood or whole lens? Bummer. Guess if anyone is/was curious, you can probably chip paint off the black limiteds.

You gotta love your gear but love it for what it does not how it looks.
Damage will happen to all of your gear that you use. The only way to keep it pristine is to lock it away.

I have a little scratch on my 40ltd. I was angry with myself for it, but as the saying goes s*?!t happens... the lens still works perfectly so I agree with schmik on why you should love your lenses...

Great advice. And though it's everyone should already know, hearing it from others helps. Also, I don't intend on ever selling my 77ltd, so that's a plus. It's a great lens and works great on (and was made for) film too.

Ha, you should see my Tamron 300mm, it looks like it's been through a war!

No kidding, scratches and dings on the front element, corrosion around the screws holding plates on the lens, lots of scratches on the metal paint and a lens hood that used to be taped but the tape fell off so I epoxied two pieces together. All of this was before I bought it.

But wow does it take awesome pictures!

Have fun with your lens, scratches just add character :-)

It's Christened.
Congratulations.
The next scratch won't hurt quite so much.

That's great news! Now you'll never sell it for sure as people will always try to talk you down on a price that would be totally unacceptable. Congrats, it's yours for keeps!!!!

Sorry to hear about it but like they said it adds character and in the end it's about the photographs it takes

hehe Mine has a very small scratch on the lens cap, i was stupid enough to put it on the ground and try to take the rear cap with one hand since I want to change lens... but that doesn't matter as I would never sell it away

i keep the limiteds like babies. not that i'm afraid to use them, but always careful not to scratch them. the most prone to scratching is the FA31 cuz it's heavy and sometimes the lens will lean on its hood.

i do not use the original caps on any of them, too clumsy. and again rather keep the cap in good condition.

Not on the glass? Then you've got nothing to worry about.

It lets people know you actually shoot.

But, for the love of the deities, please look after the filter ring! It's actually one good reason to make lenses out of plastic.

I'm still waiting for powder-coated lenses, though...those'd be cool. Hell, why not anodised aluminium?
