This is the revised poll carried foward from https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/39283-poll-ide...-distance.html
Rationale: as a new photographer, I've wondered what is the "best" Pentax lens... and the best answer is that "it depends."
Wdo have countless sites that provide data on virtually every lens from filter size to vignetting... however, none of these sites have data that lets you pick a lens for the type of work using the best subject distance by lens.
Most of you won't need that information; your experience tells you that for this lens you'll ge the best image quality using it a particular way. For newcomers, this isn't as self-evident as you might think. I'd like to try and condify that experience into simple chart that might help some of us pick the right lens for the kind of shooting we like to do.
To that end, I've provided a
partial list of currently available Pentax
prime lenses (if this is useful, we'll do the Pentax zoom lenses later).
Please select
one lens only and rate it for your ideal
subject distance for that lens.
If you want to expand the poll by adding another lens, please do that in a direct post to this thread, naming the lens and the subject distance of your choice.
Poll Definitions:
Subject distance = the distance from the front of the lens to the primary focal point of any image.
Image quality = contrast + sharpness... and yes DOF and bokeah, distortion and build-quality matter, but this isn't a survey, it's a poll on subject distance only.
Thanks for participating. The results (as a chart of lenses with subject distance) will be posted as soon as possible after the poll closes in 30 days. Please note that majority rules, the subject distance category with the most responses will be listed.
