Probably the SMC A 50mm f/1.2. It is the default on my K-3. However when I travel and need to go light I will take the Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8-4.3 and the SMC A 70-210 f/4.

Probably my DA 21mm. Wide but not too wide. Small. Nice hood. Reasonably close focus. Great image quality. For me just an overall winner.

On APS-C it is the DA 18-135 WR, now on FF the D FA 28-105 rules. I need a good reason (i.e. faster aperture) to take it off .

I've been doing single in challenges almost continously for couple of years, so my goto lens has changed every month.

for general, it would be the 18-135, but after that it is what I need to get the job done.

The Samyang 24mm F1.4. I use it for landscape photography.

Picked up a Sigma 24mm F2.8 AF Super Wide II last year off another member, and it's been mounted like 90% of the time I shoot. Previously it was the plastic fantastic 50mm.

I scooped up a 40mm ltd on eBay a month or so ago, and think I'll have a hard time running around with anything else on my KS2.

The D FA 150-450 is on my camera more often than not. Otherwise it's the 18-135.

Same for me, with the KP. Mainly because the opportunities that pop up (no time to change lenses) tend to be telephoto ones.

For the same reason, I usually keep the FA*300 f4.5 mounted on the K-3.

E.g. for when a koala turns up in your driveway.

For walkaround, same as several others have said - the 18-135 for its versatility.

Or the DA 20-40 Ltd for its wider aperture (at 20-23mm)

... and beautiful rendering.

For portraits - FA 43 Ltd, FA 77 Ltd. Or the DA 20-40 if there's group. Here's the 43:

For plants, insects, animals, details of anything, or zingy landscapes - DFA 100 macro WR.

(Or occasionally the FA 50 macro.)

For wide angle, DA 12-24.

Or more recently, the DA 15 Ltd.

If it's not a go-to lens for something, then what's it in the kit for?

I know that a famous Nat Geo photographer has a favorite lens that is usually attached to his camera and was wondering what is your goto lens?
Not a Natgeo photographer :P and I wonder if any of there photographer use Pentax?
As for me it is DA21 smc. Best Pentax APSC urban walk around day or night for me. And I love it Starbursts effort at night.

My DA* 50-135mm is my "never leave home without it" lens.

I converted it to screwdrive a few years ago, and I've got its focus well tuned in. I almost always pair it with one or two other lenses, such as the DA 20-40mm Limited, HD 35mm Limited, or a manual focus lens for variety.

Recently it's been the DA 16-45mm but I'm trying to focus more (pun intended) in manual lenses. The problem is that the DA 16-45mm often gives me better results than my 24 2.8 manual focus lenses, so it ends up on the camera whenever I need something a bit wider.

I bought my Tamron 18-200mm as a general purpose "do everything" lens and that's exactly what it's good at, so if I'm going out for a stroll or for a family gathering that's the lens fitted to my K-5

I've got wider angle and wider aperture and longer focus that are used as necessary and although all good at their job, they're mostly big and heavy so only come out "as needed".
