ND filter recommendation

I just purchased a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Lens from B&H, which has a 82mm filter thread size. Reading the reviews it is suggested to only use very thin filters to stop vignetting. I want a ND filter for the lens, any recommendations of thin 82mm filters?

I use Hoya ND filters. I have the 9 stop, 6 stop, and 3 stop filters. I use them with my Pentax 16-85 lens, on my Pentax K-3 II. The images I get are excellent.

I use this lens a lot with filters. If you use just one filter it should be ok. I normally use a polarizer +1 or 2 filters. In those cases I use if from 12 mm to avoid vignetting.

While I find them to be pretty good, don't use Firecrest Irix circular filters if you want to use the lens hood too. While thin, they don't allow the use of the lens hood. That's my bit of advice. You can still put a few millimeters of the hood over the filter but the hood mount flanges don't fit over the filter frame.

You must be using one of their square ones? They make standard round ones too, or am I missing something?

Whoops. I meant Irix. I have a Firecrest 82mm CPL which fits well and an Irix 82mm ND which is too large to use the lens hood. I also don't use square filters. Too expensive for me, too large for me to bother carring and I don't need them. Circular filters do me fine for the time being.

I'll edit my previous comment to ease confusion.

I use B+W MRC filters, while the quality is superb these are expensive...
I have only 3 in 49mm ND3, 6, 10.

Consider a filter system if you will use it much. Those holders makes every day use much simpler!

I use the Lee 100mm square system. I found it was easier to use that the round filters. I can use them on almost all of my lenses. I have the 10 stop Big Stopper and the 6 stop Little Stopper, a few medium graduated filters and a CPL filter.

After decades of using chiefly B + W filters, I have recently discovered the Rollei round filter lines. They feature Gorilla Glass, have very little effect on image sharpness, and strike me pretty good value.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to be readily available in the US, but maybe some European forum members are following this thread, too.

You could always use a step-up ring and use really big diameter filters. Unfortunately the sizes above 82mm are 86 (waste of time), 95 and 105mm, so they're going to be pricey!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I should have been more specific in what I was looking for. A thin 82 thread ND filter that will fit on the Sigma 10-20mm lens with hood attached and hopefully will not vignetted.
I have various filters, from Marumi ,B+W, X3, and Hoyo. But the largest has 77mm thread. I know most of these make the extra thin type filters, but I was hoping someone would have experience with a thin filter and this lens.

Below is a shortcut to an example listing of a Hoya 6 stop ND product at B and H (for Wingincamera to view if possibly interested). Also, please note (Wingincamera), per my experience with using ND filters with my hood on my lens (Pentax 16-85), I have never had problems with HOYA circular nd filters.

Here is another shortcut to a product listing below (on Amazon), for a Hoya 9 stop ND. I have an NDX400, and it is excellent for longer exposures, though sometimes my 6 stop filter is enough when it is not sunny.

Thank you C_Jones for the links. Does either of these lens have a color cast? Or the dreaded "X" pattern?

I have never had a noticeable problem with either, using any of my three Hoya ND filters (3, 6, or 9 stop). Really, these filters do an excellent job. I would suggest B and H as a seller, as that is where I have purchased ND filters from before. If you live outside of NY like it looks like you do (WA) you would not have to pay sales tax if you purchase from there. Also, if you want to consult with someone from B and H prior to purchase, you can do that. The shortcut I gave you that resorts to the Amazon listing of the 9 stop filter would also seem to be alright, due to the Amazon Fulfillment of the product sale (guarantee from Amazon). It seems like I did something like that for my 9 stop ND (Amazon seller). Also, if you want to get a more expensive (newer) model of the Hoya 9 stop ND, you can get that at B and H (see shortcut below for listing). The more expensive 9 stop is a "Solas IRND", which I bought the 6 stop version of from B and H. My Hoya 9 stop nd filter is not "Solas IRND", it was made prior to when the Solas type was available, but it does an excellent job.
