It's compact, inexpensive because it only needs a small piece of glass, and fits multiple lenses. Depending on your use case it might be awkward to use. ND and astrophotography filters should work okay, but CPL is infeasible because there's no way to rotate it.

Some lenses might extend too far back and interfere with the filter. I don't know about the 15-30. STC does mention that > 200mm might vignette on Pentax full frame.
That is very cool. Prices are not that cheap and changing them on the field might be inconvenient but considering the other options it is definitely worth looking into it.

The lee does as well I thought.
The ND big stoppers are square you are correct, but the ND grads are rectangular.

I use the Fotodiox WonderPana system on my 15-30. I especially like the CPL because Fotodiox also has a lens cap that clips to the system when you want to shove it in your bag or whatever. While large, it handles very nicely. I also have the circular ND, but I haven't tried attaching any of the rectangular grads.

On my 24-70 I use the Wine Country Camera filter system. While expensive, I like it a lot. They now have a system that fits the 15-30.

I picked up a 4" PVC cap at the local hardware store to go on the backside of the front half of the assembly, so I leave the mounting ring on the lens, and then detach and store the rest as a single piece.

That is a really cool system. I wonder if there is interference with lens rear elements. How much certain lenses sticks its rear element into the lens mount. 15-30 was a tamron design so had to deal with multiple mounts so it may or may not.

I have the Lee 100mm series for my D-FA 24-70, and other lenses. Love the Lee filters. But like you, I had to up size to the 150mm filters for my D-FA 15-30. After a lot of research, I changed horses, and went with the Haida universal filter holder system, and I really like their filters. I also recommend getting the Haida filter bag, no matter what system you go with. It holds the filters and the filter holder, something my Lee filter bag does not do. Also, I ended up buying an ICE CPL instead of the Haida CPL. Mainly due to cost. I really like the ICE CPL, works great. No weirdness for an off brand filter, and no conflicts with my Haida filters.

Lastly, Haida has a new system that just came out. The M10 filter holder system (for 100mm filters) and the M15 filter holder system (for 150mm filters). I have not used either, but they look very interesting. Seems to have a lot of versatility built into the new system. Worth a look.

The Irix 15mm has in-built rear filter holder for ND gels. Irix also produce a screw on front square filter holder for standard 100x100 and 100x150 filters.

What good today is that there are many filter options for wide angle zooms such as Nikon 14-24, Tamron 15-30, Pentax D-FA 15-30, which wasn't the case when those lenses were released.

Absolutely true. The availability of the filters was what pushed me over the edge to the the D-FA 15-30 lens. Prior to that, I wasn't thinking seriously about an UWA lens.

Hi everyone, Ive been using the Nisi system with my 15-30mm and to be honest have struggled with it - it was expensive to buy and I found it very bulky and now it seems to have broken on me

I hadnt heard of Haida before but does anyone know if I were to purchase a Haida holder (which seems to be a lot cheaper) if I would be able to use the Nisi filter with it? Would I be correct guessing the filters would be the same size? Thanks!

I have the Lee 150 kit with a mount for the DFA15-30.

It is superbly engineered and works perfectly. Not the cheapest option though.

I use the Haida M10 with Haida Red Diamond filters. IMO very good filters and very resistable against crashing. One of the 150x100 filters fell straight on the street from height 1.5m … no problem. It survived! A filter holder for the Tamron/Pentax DFA15-30 is available.

You may also have a look at the newer magnetic filters they now offer.
