Most Expensive Pentax Lens?

This one perhaps?

Used Pentax Super Telephoto 800mm f/4 Takumar Lens for Pentax 67 E+

6x7 800 F4

I suspect this is fairly overpriced. You could get a very nice APO refractor telescope for much less.

Over 17 kg in weight.
Minimum focussing distance 20 metres.
Asking price is at least five times more than normal, according to the one review in the database.

If I’m not mistaken* that lens has been on display on the NY showroom floor for years - and always ‘Not For Sale’ when the question was asked.

* I vaguely recall a post here many years ago to that effect.

Yep, I believe in that post there were pictures showing customers using it on the street

It sounds like one of these things they have just to attract people. Let's face it: I've just generated traffic on their site and others may juatby stumble across something that they will (be able to) buy.

Hard to imagine anybody buying it - not even that useful a focal length on a 6x7 (400mm equivalent) - I think it would be hard to take pictures as good as you could take with a high Mp modern camera and a 400mm lens - the 6x7 just isn't made for low vibration fast shutter speed shots!

Maybe worth it to somebody who has a copy of every Pentax lens - OK, I'll be kind, every other Pentax 6x7 lens - and there was no other 800mm available anywhere - I wonder?

I am almost that crazy 6x7 lens owner, however the newer 800mm with matched teleconverter, would still not be that expensive!

You have to remember that the 6x7 Takumar 800/4 was released in 1969 and that it was a medium format lens. Compare it to the telephoto lenses available in the 35mm format for the Spotmatic in 1969 and you'll see it was a groundbreaking fast lens for the time. There were also extension tubes to shorten the minimum focusing distance and teleconverters to increase the focal length.

Considering the 6x7 800/4 is very rare and only a few were sold, as well it's a historic lens, that's what it's going to cost....

Only Pentax brand, or anything in a Pentax mount?

The Sigma 200-500mm f2.8 (the "green whale") used to be listed as available for k-mount. Price was roughly $25,000. I have yet to see evidence that any were sold in k-mount.

And dust, I expect. Do they include a flunkey to carry it for you?
