In camera lens profiles in crop mode

Are the lens profiles built into the K-1/ii able to recognized the lenses in crop mode? Are there profiles for DA lenses? If there are are they used when the DA is shot FF? Thanks. I have a feeling this has been discussed but I do not recall.

Yup, there are crop profiles, and they behave just like on crop cameras. In other words, DA lens profiles only apply to crop mode unless the lens is officially marketed as a full frame compatible (the 200, 300, and 560mm).

Sorry, but I found that somewhat confusing. Are you saying that, regardless of the setting in the camera (which I keep set to FF), attachment of a DA lens will automatically set the camera to simulate an APS-C sensor? Or is it that a DA lens profile will have no effect unless I have the camera set to crop-mode? Or what?

Come to think of it, I'm not at all sure what "lens profiles" actually DO.

If you use the 200-300-560mm in FF mode, the camera will apply lens profiles.

If you use a DA lens in crop or auto modes, the camera will apply lens profiles.

If you use a DA lens in FF mode, the camera will not apply any lens profiles. It's the only drawback of using the modified 60-250 in FF mode...

Applies corrections for vignetting, CA, distortion, essentially.

Thanks for that, but it sounds like more in-the-camera-post-processing that I could apply myself (according to my own tastes) during "development". How do I turn it off completely?

You'll see these settings in the control panel, and in the menu. Note that they only apply to JPEGs (but are actually quite good otherwise).

I agree. For the most part they're subtle and useful improvements. You could apply them yourself indeed, but if they're already there, why not? Also, if you're using an older version of a program such as Lightroom, you might not have all lens profiles.

I have in mind that I might like the distortion because of some artsy-fartsy whim of my own.

No problem. You can leave correction off Or select based on the lens.
