big lens problem

would you replace: Promaster Spectrum7 19-35 / 3,5-4,5 + Tokina 28-70 / 2,8 ATXPROSV + Pentax smc F 28 / 2,8 for all in one HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm F2.8 ED SDM WR, I'm primarily interested in the order:
1.optical quality of the specified range,
2. physical ability to use the range at K1 all day,
3. the difference of capabilities themselves lens when focusing,
4. the rest

Personally, I'd go with the D FA 24-70/f2.8 (if I could only afford it)
You'd lose just a little bit going from 19mm on the Promaster to the 24mm on the Pentax, but the Pentax should render a much better image
Physical ability - I'm a big guy, I've never worried about how much my camera + lens might weigh. This is totally subjective
I've never used the Promaster, but my guess is the new 24-70mm would perform much better in these areas on the K1 than the rest of the older lenses.
Best of luck to you in your decision!

Promaster does not make impressive lenses in general. I have no experience with that particular lens but would stay away.

The F28mm is pretty rare, are you sure you can find it?

The Tokina is probably ok.

the Pentax 24-70 is a fantastic lens, nothing wrong with it really.See here:

I would go with that one.

If yuo do not need a fast lens at all times, I would also consider the DFA 28-105 and pair it with a faster compact prime.

My take is this- If carrying that many lenses is how you best work, stick with it. If having to change lenses is a nuisance= consider your options and shooting environments/situations carefully.

Look over your images to see which focal length you tend to gravitate more towards. If the Tokina is not wide enough, that extra 4mm MIGHT be enough, but only you will know.
If the majority of what you want to shoot is done with the promaster, you may get frustrated that the 24-70 isn't wide enough.

I own all of the above lenses, with Pentax smc F 28 / 2.8 I'm very happy and would never change it as a lens, the Tokina ATXPROSV 28-70 / 2.8 me because I don't know better but I always think it's not that and yes it can do better, especially at f2.8 (K1 recognizes it as PENTAX-F 28-80 / 3.5-4.5,) but I like the internal focus and the change of millimeter without stretching, ProMasterSpectrum7 19-35 / 3,5-4,5 covers me the width when I need it (rarely but then there). before buying i compared it to Pentax FA J 18-35mm / 4-5.6 AL and ProMasterSpectrum7 19-35 / 3,5-4,5 turned out to be sharper-the colors like on Tokini / saturated are, , firmer and cheaper, i'm in a big dilemma, someone else's experience would help me a lot decision

I'm another one who shoots with a DFA 28-105 + some primes (well mostly I shoot with the primes TBH but traveling its a very useful combination). For me the DFA* 24-70 is a bit big & heavy + a bit out of my budget at the moment (at least not without getting wrid of my lovely limiteds!).

That said, I do actually have a (rarely used) Tokina 28-70 ATX Prod (series 1) and comparing IQ to photos I have seen from the DFA* 24-70, I can say that the later has significantly better IQ in all regards and in particularly in much better flare control.

I've had experience shooting a couple of DFA zooms, the DFA 15-30 and the DFA 28-105, on the K-1. I've also shot an assortment of legacy lenses. In my experience, the DFA lenses are just better than all but the very best legacy lenses: sharper wide open, sharper in the corners, less fringing, and contrastier with richer color rendering. I would venture to guess that the DFA 24-70 would outperform all the lenses on your list, with the possible exception of the F 28 when stopped down. The main issue with the DFA 24-70 is price, size, and weight. I went with the DFA 28-105 in large part because of the smaller size and weight. But if you need the f2.8 and you want the best possible quality between 24-70 at that aperture, the DFA 24-70 is widely regarded as the best option out there.

Based on the pictures I saw on the Web, the Promaster is a Cosina lens. I have the other kind of 19-35mm lens that was available with the same specs but was made by Tokina. I would not be surprised if the lenses are a collaboration between Tokina and Cosina (and maybe even Tamron because they also had an identically spec'd lens) - but the Tokina has the best build and the Cosina versions were mostly just made with plastic. But optically, they're similar from what I could gather - capable of very good results if the light is right, but once you have a strong light source you lose contrast and they also flare easily.

The Tokina 28-70 is said to be a good lens but the Pentax 24-70 will be a better lens, especially wide open. Flare would also be an issue, like with all older Tokinas.

The F 28 2.8 is a good lens and from pictures I have seen, it's very good even wide open. I'm not sure if it would be better than the 24-70 at 28mm but I think the latter would be at its stronger point there, so I suspect it would do very well.

So, while your lenses are nice, and it's nice to be able to go down to 19mm, I would still consider the DFA 24-70 to be an improvement over your 3-lens setup. Still, your current 3-lens setup should be capable of very unique pictures and the lenses have a lot of "personality" - which you might miss, or you might not

If I were in your conundrum, I would sell the Promaster and the Tamron but keep the 28mm. (I like small primes)

I would then try and find something wider if the DFA24-70 doesn’t get wide enough for how you shoot.

From what I’ve read, the Promaster 19-35 is not the same as the Tokina. I’ve also read that the Tokina 20-35 is better than either of the 19-35s. I have the Tokina 20-35 f3.5/4.5, and it is better than the 19-35s I’ve used in the past.

There is a wide DFA on the roadmap that we’ll hopefully see soon. In the meantime there are an assortment of vintage lenses that should be better than the Promaster.

Can you hire the 24-70? Personally I've not been overly impressed with the lens. It definitely is a useful lens that I use for some jobs, but when using it as a landscape lens, carried all day, I've not enjoyed or been especially taken with its performance. I think you'll only know how it is for you and how it compares by hiring it.

That's good advice. I greatly doubt the other lenses you mention are even in the same ball park.

I'm guessing that the 3 aren't WR and I'm sure weather in Croatia is changeable so that's something to consider. Unfortunately know nothing about the IQ of any of the lens mentioned but the reviews for the F28 certainly look impressive. Keep the prime and adopt the new zoom

This one seems like a no-brainer. If you can afford it, do it.
