Adapting Pentax lenses to micro 4/3

Hello all,

I am planning to buy gh4 for video recording. Since i already have many k and m42 lenses, am planning to use them. Anyone have done this before ? Does the third-party adapters work ?

I do it all the time. m42, PK, PKA, FA lens mounts. Any thing without an aperture ring shoots wide open. There are adapters that control the aperture but I've never used one.
Good Luck.

I use this adapter:
Fotasy Pentax DA Lens to M43 Adapter, K Mount to MFT Adapter, fits Olympus E-PL8 E-PL9 E-M1 E-M5 E-M10 I II III E-PM2 E-PM1 Pen-F E-M1X/ Panasonic G7 G9 GF8 GH5 GX7 GX8 GX9 GX85 GX80 GX850 G90 G91 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FAA5NJI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zheXDb1Z3GB2F?tag=pentaxforums-20&

It allows rudimentary aperture control. You can't set a specific aperture by number, it's simply continuous control. You can guess the number but your basic use is to simple dial in what you want watching the exposure and depth of field in the m43 evf. It works well. The da Limiteds make for a nice match.

For some examples, these were all shot using a Roxsen/Pixco focal reducer for PK. This example could not use DA lenses. This has a .66 multiplier and makes the lens one stop faster.

Thanks guys, i will check whether any of these adapters are available in my country. @zippythezip your pictures look real nice, especially the closeup of the minion. Gave me the confidence to go ahead and purchase the gh4

Also the guy, who is selling the gh4 is offering to sell Leica 25 f1.4.. am not sure whether to buy it as i am thinking Pentax lenses will be enough for my hobbyist needs. Any thoughts ?

I use it all the time on my Oly EM10II......I see no reason to pursue it past my Pentax Glass.
One little caveat is ….IF.... you plan on using more modern Pentax glass lacking an aperture Ring... get an adapter with the rotating aperture ring feature.

It highly depends on your needs, the 25mm f1.4 will be useful in the same way the 35 f2 is today on an apsc Pentax body. Both on their respective platforms offer a normal perspective with low light options wide open and reasonably shallow depth of field. To get this same perspective on the gh4 you would need a 20mm f1.4 Pentax on an adapter (the 24 f2 is as close as you'd get).

So the question is what do you need? If s fast normal isn't needed the you don't need the Leica.

To clarify, the crop factor between m43 and APSC is 1.3, so a 25mm f1.4 m43 is similar in field of view to a 33mm and about f1.8... consequently the FA 31 F1.8 might be closer on Pentax APSC to the Leica 25mm on the gh4. Adapted lenses on the gh4 would need to be around 25mm and f1.4 to get similar results.

Thanks a lot everyone. I couldn't find a good adapter for K mount.. so ordered a m42 adapter instead. I have few 50mm taks. I will start with them and get a feel of it.
