Kit Lens Question

I have the older 18-55 kit lens that came with my K100d. I have a chance to buy the new one, the II version, for a pretty good price. Looking advice on whether it is worth my while to upgrade....will I notice a big difference in the image quality?

Thanks in advance for your advice

welcome to the forum

the difference is not significant. i'd suggest you save up money for better lenses in the future
there were some comparisons done but i can't find the link anywhere

Hi and welcome. Yes you will probably notice some improvement but you will be trading an apple for an apple. You might want to think about getting a different zoom range to increase your flexibility in shooting. The 50-200 is the other kit lens people get as part of their starter kit. Once you know what focal lengths you use most often you can think about getting a faster lens to cover that range. A fast 50 is a worthwhile and reasonably priced lens that most people invest in sooner or later.
Going back to the series II kit lens, if it's that cheap, you can sell it at a profit or you can keep it and sell your old one to put towards another lens.

If "pretty good price" is, say, $10 or less, then sure, I'd say you'll get your money's worth. But if it's going to cost you $100, and you consider that the same money could get you a really good used prime in one of several focal lengths (28, 50, 100, or 135), or would get you half way toward an FA50 or DA40, I think wasting $100 on $10 worth of improvement would be pointless.
