Thanks, you're correct, Steve, and it does say '2019 or later'.
There have been multiple versions of that roadmap. But obviously "or later" adds no useful information.

I think it is worth noting that a roadmap actually is.

It doesn't specify when the journey starts or finishes, what route to take or how fast to drive, or even whether the journey will happen at all.

Historically, Pentax delivers products when they are ready and have never seemed to care much about being ready for the "Christmas season" or PMA or photokina or whatever else.

Absolutely. Entering the full frame market happened when the financial conditions were right.

I will be surprised if they release it in december. With this release cycle they will never finish the current roadmap. Get the FA limiteds, they are very good lenses, although the screw drive is loud.

Supposed to be an announcement about it at the end of November. I guess we will see. As for the roadmap, it says what they are working on.

It's a bit like Leonardo da Vinci, where the output is extremely slow, but every thing that is released is a masterpiece. I guess better that than turning lots and lots of mediocre glass.

"2019 or later", and at this late date, that probably translates to next year or later.

Steve
I hadn't noticed the DA standard zoom lens on the roadmap before. A kit lens that can de a 24mp sensor justice?

That is my take and would be a good thing and is long overdue.

Yep...Ricoh updates it periodically and the most recent version is published to the Ricoh Imaging, Japan Web site in the lens product section. The same is usually also available here on PF, often accompanied by a home page article. Last winter's update was intensely discussed here as have various rumors since regarding potential release for both the D FA* 85/1.4 and the D FA 70-200/4.0. If there were a surprise announcement this month regarding either of those lenses it would be neither a great surprise nor much of a fanfare event given the long time in development, at least in my humble opinion. The same would be true if there were a CP+ announcement this spring.

You may have noticed that various lenses that were on previous versions of the roadmap have disappeared. Just because something is proposed or under development does not mean the product will launch. The "roadmap" is not a description of a release queue.

Da Vinci, of course, having had famous difficulty bringing concept to fruition.

The delays in release of longed for lenses are built into the process to allow us end users to save up enough money to make the purchase when it is finally released.

The RICOH TLA for this is FPD - Financial Preparation Delay

ROFL. At Least? You are dreaming. Seriously. Get over it. Don't forget DSLR's are already a struggling market.

At best, we'll see ONE sub f/2.0 prime at 20mm, 24mm, 35mm and 85mm. We already have stellar zooms to cover those focal lengths at f/2.8
We already have a brilliant 150-450. There is no viable market for largely duplicate 100-400 and 150-600 lenses. Won't. Happen.
And your macro wish list is just silly. 200/2.8 is unusable at close focus, and the current 50mm and 100mm are already pretty good. Silent AF is a sideshow for macro lenses.

This is Pentax we're talking about here. They have never tried to be Nikon or Canon, and they never will.
