Spots in pictures from my SMC PENTAX DA 18-55 lens

I am seeing spots in my photos every time I use my SMC PENTAX DA 18-55 lens. If I switch to my SMC PENTAX M 50mm I do not see them. I have tried cleaning my sensor twice and the spots do not change. I have cleaned both ends of the lens, and the spots do not change. If I change the zoom between 18 and 55, the spots do change appearance. My latest round of test photos have been without a UV filter attached. Any suggestions or ideas?

Looks like sensor dust to me.

Put your SMC 50mm on and set it to f/16 or so and take a picture of a blue sky no clouds.

Make sure you check the 50mm shows no spots when you stop it down to f16, it may be that it just happens that you're using it at a larger aperture.

To check the elements inside the zoom: take a light, carefully open the aperture by moving the lever with your finger, look at one end while shining the light through the other. I usually use my phone for the light and do this especially with lenses I buy used to check for fungus.

Dust bunny no doubt. Give the sensor a good blow with a rocket blower. At wider apertures the dust bunnies do not appear. Thats why your M lens appears not to show them.

Dust in a lens won't show up as spots.

I just uploaded 7 new shots. Its cloudy here, so I do not have any blue sky available. IMGP2917.JPG - IMGP2920.JPG were taken with the 50mm at F/16. No spots. IMGP2921.JPG - IMGP2923.JPG were taken with the 18-55 lens and the spots are present.

F/16 -- I doubt it! The shutter speed in the EXIF data is 10 times SHORTER than in your zoom frames, under, I presume, similar lighting conditions. Check whether the 50mm lens is really stopping down. If it is (nearly) wide open, any dust spot effects are less obvious.

As others say, this is the classical appearance of dust on your sensor. If you don't have a rocket blower handy, a turkey baster works, too (just make sure it's not greasy from recent use!!) And, DON"T touch the sensor with whatever blower you use.

A M lens will not stop down if you are shooting in Av mode. It will only stop down if you are shooting in M mode. Make sure Using Aperture ring is set to permitted in the custom menu, set the camera to M mode, and use the Green Button to get a meter reading.

I was shooting in Auto Pic mode, not Av specifically. I did change to M mode with f/16 and they did show up. I used my Hurricane blower on it, reshot and nothing moved. I have already used a Pentax Imagesensor Cleaning Kit on it twice already. Maybe the third time's the charm.

It's not your lens. That's sensor dust. Dust on a lens simply does not show up on images.

It appears to not be "dust". A blower and the cleaning kit is not touching it. I will need to look into professional cleaning, if that still exists anymore. Any suggestions out there?

Could be pollen. Pollen can be sticky and may not be removed with a blower. Or, you may have sneezed when changing the lens!

What type of blower are you using?
