If I could only ever have one lens on my K1 again.... it would be the 43... not the 31, 77, 50 1.2 etc etc.....

(but... the other K1 would have the 150-450 ...haha)

It just hits a sweet spot on size, focal length, rendering, etc. Really a nice lens to use. It doesn't focus particularly close, so do be aware of that.

On full frame I find that I often turn to the 43 even though I have a DFA*50mm 1.4 and DFA24-70 2.8 available. When I want to travel light, the 43 is just so versatile, portable and delivers good quality images. I do very much like the natural perspective it offers.
But as others have said, on APSC the DA40 is smaller, cheaper and has quick shift...

The FA 43mm is best on a FF body. I bought mine when film was all I was shooting. I use it less now that I'm shooting APS-C. The FA 31mm is more versatile, providing similar on APS-C as does the 43mm on FF, but when installed on a FF body the FA 31 becomes a versatile fast wide angle lens.

I had copy, sold it. Then bought it again. I found that I missed it enough to fill my desire to get it again. That little bit of flexibly versus my DFA 50 1.4 is useful. And the character that it has brings more than merely supreme sharpness and optical perfection.

Not a big fan of the 40-ish mm focal length, either on APS-C or full frame. I ended up going with the DA *55, feeling as though the spacing between 31 -- 55 -- 77 was more even than the spacing between 31 -- 43 -- 77. Since the DA *55 is also very usable on full frame, I have been happy with my decision.

As you can tell from my profile's " about me " section, I have multiple lenses from 35mm to 55mm - 8 total

collected over time with the DA 40mm F2.8 XS being first followed by the DA 50mm F1.8

I just got recently the * 55 and then the FA 43mm Limited

unless I want super small lens - DA 40 XS or Limited I chose the 43mm or the *55mm

just personal taste

I'll be adding the three amigos to my kit eventually as finances allow....the one I'm having the hardest time convincing myself about is the 43mm......Already own a couple nifty fifties....

What's the point of the 43, really?
I had the same reflections back when I added the FA 43 to my collection. Having had the superb 77 and the highly regarded 31 (I mostly use longer lenses so the 77 was my favourite) I was thinking whether the 43 would be a good addition, as many consider this lens the least magical of the three amigos. I'm glad I bought the 43 ltd. I had only the FA 50/1.4 until then as a standard lens. After I bought my K-1 the FA 43 is the only lens I always take with me on every bag I carry and many times I take the camera with the 43 and nothing else! The 77 and the 31 need some thinking whether they will be useful in my photographic task or walk. The FA 43 is the lens I take without any further thinking and then I conider what else I might need!

Lately I'm shooting with the KP and I found it is a perfect match for this camera too!

Wonderful little lens, I'm sure many others will tell you how much they enjoy this lens too!

I find I use it back and forth between full frame and ASP-C, and I find it is comfortable as the "normal" lens for both. I think it's a combination of the focal length and rendering.

Well thanks for all the feedback. Guess people tend to love their 43's

I don't find the 43 the least magical of the 3 amigos. I need to use the 31 more on ff to be sure, but for now, the 31 has a wee less magic. Though it is mighty good.

Personally, I find that the 43ltd is the weakest of the 3 on FF. (oddly, I liked it better on apsc)
The 31ltd is the most versatile on FF. Wide enough as a wide lens for natural landscapes, great for environmental portraits and a fast aperture on a wide lens for use in low light or for isolation.
The 77ltd is a great performer as a short tele or portrait lens. Very sharp esp stopped down a bit and really nice draw on the subject for up to half body shots.
I find that 43ltd is not wide enough for many landscape situations, not as technically sharp as a good old 50mm stopped down, not as isolating as a fast 50mm or the 77ltd.

However, I am somehow drawn to it for the combination of small negligible size and versatilty as a more casual walkabout lens.
If for example I am just going out on a regular walk in the nearby park or shopping street/mall, where I may (many not) take photos, I'd more often reach for the 43ltd than the others.

It also depends on my lens selection when I go on a photo trip.
If my ultra wide is the 20mm, I will tend to use the 43ltd as my "normal"
