Kit lens lens shade problem...

I have the 18-55 kit lens on my K10D. As several posters have noted it is quite a good lens, especially a stop or two down from the maximum aperture.

As a firm believer in lens shades, I use its "petal" shade religiously, to the extent that the bayonet mount for the shade has worn to where I'm afraid that the shade will fall off one day and be lost. Odds are that the shade by itself is difficult and/or expensive to replace.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas to "tighten" the shade up so it will stay on?

My 16-45 has done the same thing and I rarely remove it (I don't use lens caps and only remove it occasionly when using the pop-up flash) so it hasn't been over used IMO. I had a bit of a look once to see if it was the lens shade that was worn or the lens itself but couldn't tell. Need another lens/shade to test out both combinations to see which ones the culprit!

Once this gets to be a problem that I want to fix (it already falls of on occasion) I think I'll try building up the shades locking 'bump' with a bit of araldite (super tough 2-part glue) and see if that helps.

HGM, my 16-45 is doing the same thing. My other Pentax lenses and hoods all snap on tight.

I think that it's something to do with the tabs on the bayonet mount that are wearing down on this lens. They look to be very rounded off.
