The 100 A, the 100 F, the 100 FA, THE 100 dfa and the 100 Wr

I lik the older macro lenses. With an Aperture ring for macro with extension tubes
My favorite is the 100 FA

The best macro Will be a voigtlander but very expensive

And out of K mount realm. For a couple hundred less than the price of either the 60mm or 110mm Voigtlander macro you could get both the 100mm DFA and the 50mm DFA macros, and use the 50 on extension tubes with its f stop control ring. Both are outstanding optically and the 100 is WR.

I'm still using the F 100mm, and the results look good to me, though Ive never used a more modern one

Sigma 70 and 105mm macros are both stunningly sharp...

Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 90mm macros are my favorite MF macros..

I had the FA-100mm F2.8 Macro, which was an excellent lens. It was very sharp all the way to F32. Unfortunately it was dropped and no longer works. I got a replacement FA-100, which was also sharp but only from F8 to F16. I recently replaced that with the D-FA 100mm F2.8 WR Macro, which is spectacularly sharp from F5.6 up to F11 and then starts to drop off. Anything past F16 on my copy is not useful for macro. The only think I wish the D-FA 100mm WR Macro had was an aperture ring. That would make it the perfect modern macro lens.

If I was looking for a new macro lens today, I'd be seriously looking at the IRIX 150mm F2.8 Macro lens.

I love my DFA100WR. I don't have to worry about wet grass or a light rain (I wouldn't be shooting in heavy rain anyways, except from a dry spot or under a roof).
I can shoot film with it on some of my cameras with aperture control… I can also use full TTL flash anytime needed… it's a dream. The only downside, is there isn't a DFA200WR version for the most aggressive and stingy bugs.

No, MF = manual focus. He's just mentioning that that is the best manual macro lens.

Right now the IRIX 150 is on my "want" list verses my "need" list. And I just spent funds on a GR III, so not only can I not justify it, I can't afford it either. And the lens is on sale this week too so the price is excellent.

I would consider that one, too. It's weather sealed and I own the 15/2.4 which is a tank! Tough as hell! I wonder why they didn't at least stretch it to 180 or all the way to 200mm.

I only have the FA100 but from comparative shots I saw a couple of years back they very similar optically to the DFA100 lenses. I gather coatings have improved on aberrations (although I have not noted anything serious with my FA100) and contrast (my FA 100 is pretty sharp wide open but a little lower contrast). Of course the WR variant is an advantage too. Unfortunately the DFA100s have lost the focus limiter which gives the FA100 pretty consistently quick AF I have found.

The Wr is a Nice lense But had No Aperture ring for using extensions

I have the 35mm Limited Macro and a Sigma 180mm macro and I like both equally. I've used the Tamron AF 90mm macro for a bit and it was a good lens but I never took a liking to it.
