I didn't even know that a Vivitar Series 1 version of the 55/1.2 existed. I am wondering why they stopped production of this lens - does anyone know what was its cost when it was released?
According to a web page I found, the Vivitar 55 f1.2 (Series 1?) listed for $230 in the U.S. in 1976. http://web.archive.org/web/20021101165015/medfmt.8k.com/third/table3.txt

The Series 1 55 is also mentioned in this PF thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/33686-vivitar-lens-question.html

I hope Samyang will make a 50mm faster than 1.4 some day.

If anyone's wondering, that's about $890 in today's dollars.

I've heard that in Japan camera stores you still can find brand new A 50/1.2 for about $1000. Quality f1.2 lens are always quite expensive.

You can buy a brand new A 50mm f/1.2 from Japan through eBay. A couple of years ago they were going for $500-600; the one I own I bought in mint condition from a guy that had bought it new from Japan.

Now if only they'd rerelease it as an FA 50mm f/1.2 Ltd...

I know! It looks very Limited, and I always wondered why they didn't just add autofocus to the lens and release it as a 50mm f/1.2 Ltd. Even at $1,000 I'm sure they would've sold like hotcakes. Pentax's decisions (or lack thereof) really baffle me
