Alternative lens hood for DA55-300?

I’ve briefly tried my DA55-300 (original version) with my new K-1 and I must say it’s much closer to FF than I dared hope for. Even cropped I think the images will be superior to what I got with my K-5 because of much better AF.

But the lens hood vignettes a little, at least at some focal lengths. Has anyone a good idea for an alternative lens hood that fits the DA55-300 and works well in FF mode?

With the hood completely off are you happier with the vignetting? Assuming it is, Amazon and eBay sell a lot of metal lens hoods that screw in and have integrated lens caps so the hood can stay mounted. Just figure out length and find one that is that length or shorter. You can use cardboard to create a temporary hood to test size needed.

Or get one of the collapsible rubber hoods that screw in to the filter threads that can be partially collapsed. Flea bay has them for about 5 or 6 bucks.

JJC has a copy of the Pentax hood, with the reversible bayonet mount and sliding window for a polarizer. It's ~$13 so I'd buy that and attack it with a dremel, files, rasps, sandpaper or whatever to resemble a tulip hood, cutting V shaped notches in each corner. You could do one corner until it doesn't vignette, make it look good, put some tape on it and cut the shape out on the tape. Then use the tape to mark notches on the other corners. I suppose you could even shift the sensor to make sure the corner shape is exact.

^ yes, use a collapsible rubber hood. I bought one from B&H years ago (I think it's the one linked below) and it's held up well, even when I crush it inside my camera bag. The rubber shows no signs of deterioration.

When zoomed to 300mm extend the hood all the way. At 55mm pull the hood back to the middle position.
