Is Sigma 120-400 ever coming out!?

I just went to look at the Sigma website to look at the 120-400mm for pentax mount and it doesn't have it on the list of mounts! Is it ever coming out? I need that extra reach, the longest lens I have right now is a 50-135mm which is good but I need more reach. Take a look for yourself the mount list doesn't have pentax anymore.

I think I remember having read somewhere that no Sigma OS lenses will be available in Pentax mount (but not sure). That's why the 120-400 and 150-500 do not exist in Pentax (or Olympus) mounts. Maybe conflict between the two stabilising systems ?
There is still the 170-500 if you need the reach ....

I talked to a Sigma rep. some weeks ago and he told me that the 150-500 HSM won't be available for Pentax mount. I guess that's the same with the 120-400...

I emailed Sigma and they indicated they had no anticipated release date for the 120-400mm in the Pentax mount. Then, 3 weeks later, right after Photokina, the pentax mount note on the 120-400mm description page dissappeared. I guess they have changed their mind about offering up the new HSM lenses in a Pentax mount, at least for now.

I gave up waiting and bought the 100-300mm. Works great with my Tamron 1.4x TC, which gives me essentially the same range and apertures as the 120-400mm.

This is a partial post from a Pentax Pro dealer in the Uk from yesterday on the UK Pentax forum:

Hi all!

I have just had some product availability information which I thought I would share.

Pentax 60-250 - Still on course for late November although stocks will be limited. I had a play with one the other day and it is very impressive. Very solidly made and being SDM very quick on the focus front.

Pentax AF160C - Due end of November. Retail price = £429. Again, I saw one the other day and it worked well.

Pentax 55/1.4 SDM - Due late January

Pentax SDM Converter - This has been confirmed as being 1.4x and is due 'Spring' 2009

Pentax K-m - On course to be with us the last week of October. £50 cashback from launch.

Sigma:
4.5mm Fisheye & 10mm Fisheye - Due December

120-400 & 150-500 - Due late November. These are SDM lenses but don't have an image stabiliser built in.

18-125 - Due November. Again as far as we know this is SDM and again don't have an image stabiliser built in.

EM 140DG Ringflash - Due November

Hope this helps... As ever call/mail/PM me for any more information.

I actually saw adverts for this lens in the break between the V8 Supercars at Bathurst ... and it mentioned Canon, Nikon, Pentax and other mounts in the advertisements.

Why not go for the 135-400?

I have the 135-400mm DG APO and am not that impressed with it to be honest.
It can sometimes produce excellent results and sometimes total c**p.
Of course that could just be me and not the lens at all

I was going to ask about the Sigma 135-400, I have one and am very pleased with it and the images that I've produced with it. I think it is a good compliment to my 50-135.

How does the IQ of the 135-400 compare to the 50-500 aka Bigma? I want/need something in this focal range and don't know what to do right now

The 135-400mm can be quite good but I think the Bigma should be better considering the price difference.
Some shots with the 135-400mm.

You do need loads of light though as its not the fastest lens about.

I ve seen BHphoto.com is collecting pre-order of the sigma 150-500mm for the price $879 Sigma | 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG HSM APO Autofocus Lens | 737109

and the 120-400 at $755
Sigma | 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM APO Autofocus Lens | 728109

IMO they must heard or got some news from Sigma

does anyone here have chances to use either of these two lenses (in other mount, of course ), can you tell me which is better ?

SRS (UK Pentax Pro Dealer) has them listed on their web-site which they don't usually do until it's been released ...

Linky

Edited to post this quote from Chris at SRS made on the PentaxUser forum

Does anybody here have any clue of the Tamron 200-500 for Pentax ? will the lens be released?

I read a few review on the Internet and actually prefer it than the Bigma and the coming 150-500. but it looks like the tamron company doesn't want to expand their products for K mount

B&H has the Sigma120-400mm for $755.00 after immediate rebate:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/590732-REG/Sigma_728109_120_400mm_f_4_5_5_6_DG_HSM.html

There are 5 of them available here for purchase:

NEW Sigma APO 120-400mm 4.5-5.6 DG HSM Lens / Pentax - eBay (item 200294313538 end time Feb-01-09 01:18:35 PST)

Reviews of the 150-500 indicate better IQ from the Bigma. The jury is still out on the sigma 120-400mm for N****. The reports of quirky OS (optical stabilization) for N**** lenses appears to be diminishing the IQ. Since the OS will not operate in the Pentax version, perhaps the results will be better. This review shows it to be a decent performer:
