Hi,
I was looking to purchase a pentax-a smc 50mm lens, probably a f/1.7. I was looking on ebay to find one, and didnt want to spend too much on one and get ripped off. A lot of these different types of lenses confuse this newbie!!! Can you guys tell me what a good price to pay is for this type of lens so I dont spend toooo much on it? Can you recommend any other places other than ebay to find this lens as well? Or can you recommend another 50mm lens? Thanks so much!!!

If I could find a FA 1.4 I would sell you my 50MM A 1.7 at a reasonable price. I will keep you in mind while I look. Ebay may be a tough place to make sure you don't pay to much. I like Jon's idea. Not sure how new you are to the SLR world but would say try (unless you are very fimular with Manual modes) to stay away from the M models. The A models and up will make things a lot easier if you are new to this world. Good luck and I will keep and eye out for you.

Thats the main reason I wanted to stay away from the M lens, I just dont feel confident enough yet to do everything manually.

i paid mine 70usd, dunno if its a good or bad price but it was fine with me
the lens had both caps and a skylight filter included, and its in top shape!

I bought my A 50mm 1.7 off ebay for 90 USD. I've heard others who've purchased it for much less others who've paid more. Not sure I would pay too much over 100 USD though. It is an excellent prime. Bought this over the 50mm 1.4 because I wanted a bargain. Don't regret it for a minute.

I recently took this lens on a trip to the Yucatan, along with the DA 16-45 and DA 50-200 and must say that my sharpest and most optically pleasing shot was with the A-50mm. Now I have it on my K10D most of the time. Also, has given me an insatiable need to shoot with primes. Just purchased and am waiting for the 21mm and 70mm Ltds. Yes, I'm broke (ouch!) but I can't wait to break-in these fine pieces .
