My oh my! (some DA*300 love)

I try to treat all my lenses with the same love and respect, but I have to admit my DA*50-135 has been my favorite for a long while. However, after receiving the DA*300 earlier this week, I think the 50-135 may have to move over a bit. This is one sweet lens! I've only taken a few shots, but every one of them confirms that the AF is dead on, the colors are nice, it's quick and silent, everything you want your lenses to grow up to be!

Here are a couple of duck portraits to show what I'm taking about. I'm hoping to take in the Wings Over Houston airshow this weekend, and use the DA*300 there.

Nice Muscovy ducks. real sharp images.
They look young and "fresh", their faces haven't erupted in much red lumpyness yet.

I took pics of some not long ago, they were low level with an FA50 and a beanbag - fairly close, they were quite docile.

Looks like a really nice lens, Russ. Maybe I'll be able to afford one when the kids get out of day care. I'm hoping to make the air show with my boy this weekend also if work doesn't get in the way.

Had a short experience w/ the new DA*300 lens a while ago, it's considerably bigger and heavier than the F*300/4.5:

IQ wise, it's a wonderful lens. Here are some quick walkabout testing shots w/ this lens mounted on a K100D (yeah, it's the K100D. Didn't have the K20D w/ me when I had chance to play this lens), all wide open shots:

The lens can focus very close, 1.4m, that's probably the only feature I miss on the F*300/4.5:
