Typical problem with the first SDM lenses.
I have replace twice the SDM motor on my DA* 16-50 (both times i dropped the lens and had a motor failure) and the problem of the wake remains.
I have also replaced the SDM motor on my DA* 50-135 (the motor randomly stopped working) and never had and issue since then.

There was a discussion on a German forum about SDM motor problems. One member suggested that the SDM motor could be freed up by rotating it by hand. Disassembly is close to but not exactly like the DA* 16-50. I tried this and it didn't seem to help any more than just using the lens a lot. I didn't break anything, so that was awesome. I think the only permanent fix is replacing the SDM motor with a new version.
