Question about the 18-135 WR

l want to get this lens for my first Pentax body, which l should get soon. lt looks the hood has a removable door. ls that so you can rotate a polarizer with the hood on? And is the AF screwdrive or motor in the lens?

Hi, the lens does have a removable door exactly for the purpose that you have stated. It also has a fast and reliable DC motor in the lens. It is near silent too. Please note it is for APS-C only.

According to the review : Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

Yes there is a removable door on the hood.
The AF is done by a silent in-lens DC motor, not screw-drive.

Can you do man focus override without swiching into man focus mode? And the hood door is a good feature for me because l like to use polarizers if it can improve the image.

Hi Bill, yes, this lens has " Quick Shift," The 18-135 is a great walk around lens.

It has its own thread.

The idea of the hood door appears to be a good one, but I have found it more trouble than it's worth. It's awkward to use if you are hand-holding the camera; and if you take it off and leave it off, you can get light leaks, especially if holding the camera vertically. I simply slip my finger inside the edge of the hood to rotate the polarizer.
