Pentax Da star 300

I have this lens but the SDM didn’t work properly
I think about it to use the lens by screwdrive

Doe anyone know if this works correctly for Af and what are the costs for the repair?

If you are thinking of converting the lens to screwdrive, there is lots of useful information in How To: Convert SDM to ScrewDrive + Video - PentaxForums.com.

I recently converted my DA* 200, which has been showing suspicious signs of impending SDM failure. To do the conversion you need an older Pentax DSLR, as you will learn in the thread linked above. As I recall, K-3 is too new; K-5II or older is OK. Once converted it should work on any Pentax body.

Focusing will of course be noisier than SDM. I have found that just how noisy depends on which camera body. Noisier on the K-5 than on the K-1, for example.

Or you can get it converted by forum member UncleVanya. Go to the for sale listing in the marketplace and search for sdm conversion. I have not used his services but he is a respected member here.

It's easy to do, and reversible, so long as you have access to an older Pentax DSLR body. But check through the (rather long) thread I linked and you might be able to find someone closer to you who would be willing to do it.

Fair enough; it's a valuable lens. And the exact steps do depend on which camera body and computer operating system you're using. If you can find someone who's done it before that should remove most of the worry.

It's not that difficult as it might seem.

I`ve converted my DA* 16-50, too, as the symptoms were getting worse and worse.
