For what its worth, I think its harder to get a bubble lens at longer focal lengths.

I've yet to produce anything worth sharing with it, but initial experiments with my Carl Zeiss Jenar Triotar 135mm f/4 indicate that, under appropriate circumstances, quite reasonable "bubbles" can be generated. Many longer lenses have more than three elements, which does seem to be the criteria for "bubbles", though I'll admit the bokeh generated by the Zenitar looks "interesting"

To quote Fenwoodian from his PF review of Version I of this lens:

I have bought and sold hundreds and hundreds of lenses in the last 30 years. This is the only lens that I will never part with!

Paul, the review you have linked to is a post that I made about my feelings about a copy of the original MOG trioplan. That lens is about 50 years old, was very well designed and manufactured, and produces excellent soap bubble bokeh.

This thread is about a new version of this lens made by a different company. The new company has no relationship to the original MOG, they only have adopted their name. The new lens is TOTAL GARBAGE. I am in the business of buying defective lenses and repairing them. This new MOG lens fell apart while I was gently using it to take photos of Christmas tree lights. The damage was so severe that the lens could not be repaired. I took it apart and have never seen any lens so cheaply designed and manufactured.

The new lens is $999. I'll make you a deal... You send me $500, and I'll happily send you the worthless pieces from my modern MOG lens that fell apart in my hands (I kept the pieces as the company that made it would NOT either repair it, refund my money, or even answer my many emails).

You can still find good used copies of the vintage original authentic MOG lenses on Ebay. I'd suggest you buy one of the original old versions used instead of one of these new versions.

early test shots with the m42 M/O Trioplan

Here are some small files from my first outing with the Trioplan... even though these are really small (thanks photobucket for shrinking all my original shots)

You can clearly see the "painterly effect" that this old lens can produce.

No kidding, this is the latest "news" for all versions, not just K-mount: "We are currently revising the entire portfolio. Soon the first optimized lens will be released. This is the Trioplan 100 f2.8 II. The other lenses such as Trioplan 50, Lydith 30 or Primoplan 75 will follow (presumably) in monthly intervals."

By the way, this is a great thread. Nowhere else would I learn about bubble bokeh from people whose opinions I respect.

Mine was the first one I'd seen below £300 for quite a while - and condition is pretty good for it's age....

Don't encourage me - I went into town this morning for some soft fruit and came back with a Pentax K 135/3.5 and a Pentax K 200/4.0 - so beautifully built Not sure how I explain the overspend when I get home
