Sigma 50-500 & Sigma 180mm macro question

So, this Seller on a local photography exchange is selling a Sigma 50-500 AND the 180mm macro for $475 shipped. I feel like I’d be stupid to pass that up, but I can’t find much on the 180mm macro. Any thoughts or opinions on these lenses that isn’t covered in the reviews?

Edit: it’s the 180mm APO Macro f/3.5

You could triple that price and still be ahead..... as long as they function correctly

The 50-500 is worth that, especially if it's the OS HSM version

Hi @bikehead90, the 180 is in the Sigma legacy lens section. Good luck.

He said they did, just have a wee bit of dust from being out in Arizona.

Not to be the bad guy but a "deal" like that puts my spidey senses on high alert. The value of 180 macro alone is almost triple what he's asking. It makes me think...

a) does he really have any idea of what he's selling and its relative value?

b) verify what he means by, and what you assume to mean, a "wee bit dust."
c) are these items that recently came into the seller's hands by nefarious means? (not that I'm accusing anyone of anything, but...)

And of course don't forget the old aximm of Caveat Emptor.

If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is. There aren't many telephoto macro lenses for K mount: nearly all of longer ones over 100mm are only available through the second hand market, Save for the Irix 150mm f/2.8 "dragonfly" lens which can be bought new in K mount.

Having said that, the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX is a superb Macro lens. I own two of them, one in K mount the other in Canon EF mount.

If you can get the two lenses for that price, and it's a legitimate deal, go for it. Both lenses are absolutely worth it. I have both and they are by far the sharpest lenses I have. I paid much more for both lenses separately than you found them for together. So if it's a legitimate deal, definitely go for it. The 50-500 is a common lens but the 180 Macro is hard to come by.

The posting is offering to ship them via PayPal goods and services with tracking. He did say he recently lost his job, and “a buddy “gave” him these lenses, but that “buddy” also sold his Pentax cameras. But now that I’m thinking about it, it does seem to be too good to be true. He has no profile picture, and doesn’t seem to be too active. I guess the dazzle of getting these two lenses blinded me.

So yeah, I did end up getting cold feet, and backing out. I’ve been saving for the DFA 15-30, but this deal seemed too good to pass up. Wide angle it is. Thanks for all your input, and better judgement.
