can someone please tell me what all those letters mean on the lenses? hehe

example, i'm looking at FA-50mm 1.4 is cheaper than D FA 50mm 2.8 ... but what's the difference?

Also the D FA 50mm f2.8 is a macro lens and the 50mm f1.4 is not.

The DA* are "professional grade" lenses with weather sealing.

The fact that the DFA 50/2.8 is a macro lens is why it is more expensive, not any difference in FA versus DA versus DFA.

DA - Digital only
FA - Full frame, fully compatible with digital
D FA - Full frame, 'optimized for digital' design (claimed, at least)
FA J - Full frame lenses without aperture ring, 'FA/DA hybrid', in general cheap lenses.

(In which "full frame" is equal to "compatible with film cameras.)
