From that list I would probably go for the DA55-300, though its the only lens listed that I have used (and I only borrowed one for a short period). If you are on a budget and want auto focus, the older F and FA lenses should be quite a bit cheaper used than any of the 3 DA lenses and I expect that they would all be quite usable with decent lighting.

I don't mind manual focus, so as Gooshin is indirectly suggesting I bought an older manual focus zoom with a constant f3.5 aperture for well under $100 to cover roughly the same 70-210mm zoom range you are looking at. Its big, heavy and manual but the optics are great. Just another option that might be worth considering.

I would think there are lots of better ones, specifically if you start looking at F2.8 lenses.

what is your budget?
if it's ~100 bucks go for the Tamron
if you have the extra money, the 55-300mm is worth it

if you don't like to change lenses, the 18-250 does a good job

You need to look at sigma and tamron 70-200 F2.8 constant apature lenses. I have the first version Sigma APO 70-200 F2.8 EX. It works very well with their 1.4x and 2X TCs.

Also look at the old Manual Focus Vivitar Series 1 70-210 lenses. they have a F2.8-F4 lens as well as a constant apature F3.5. these are fast and lighter than the sigma AF lenses, and can be used with pentax's 1.7x AF TC with excellent results.

very true, but, if you consider that each f stop is double or 1/2 the light you have to consider that fast lenses like a constant F2.8 200mm will be 4 times the lens area compared to a lens that is F5.6 at 200 mm

not so sure in AF but, as I noted in my last post definitley in MF lots at the F3.5 to F4 range.

There really should be, because they would make for a good intermediate lens.

I agree the F2.8's are heavy.

Out of that list, I've used the F70-210, the Tamron version of the 18-250, and the DA55-300. All are fine lenses, although my favorite, which I still have, is the DA55-300. With the combination of IQ and weight, the 55-300 is the best deal.

I have both.

While the DA 50-200 is a nice lens, I much prefer the DA 55-300...

I have recently purchased the Sigma EX 70 to 200 f2.8, if I were you I would save some more money and purchase this lens. I use it as part of motorsport kit, and have come away with great results.
