Irix 45mm F/1.4

Info from Polish distributor of Irix lenses arrived on Lenstip/Optyczne.pl:

"The offer of the Irix company has just been expanded to include another lens model with 45 mm f / 1.4 parameters. It will be available for bayonets: Nikon F, Canon EF and Pentax K."

The problem with such fast 50 manual focus is not easy at that focal length through DSLR view finder, with focus peaking in LV yes.

D-FA*50 has quick AF, it's another league.

I got pretty used to manual focusing lenses with my K5, which was a manual focus camera because the AF was so innacurate. There are a few tricks that can make it easier. I suppose this lens will cost a lot less than the fat fifty which will make it desirable to some.

Shame they didn't include an aperture ring... Seems like that isn't Irix's thing, along with not offering AF.

Those prices are for the existing cine lenses, not this new stills lens. I expect prices for the stills lenses to be less.

Especially with WR lenses, it would for sure be a cost factor.

That's almost exactly the same as the D FA* 50/1.4.
Why would anyone buy it?

Look at prices for there 11mm "foto" lenses and then the comparable "cine" lenses and you'll notice that the still lenses are 1/2 the price.

Let's see where the prices actually end up when the product is on the market.

JensE: By not offering AF, how many DSLR owners are going to be interested in manually focusing a lens of this sort of focal length? Aperture rings do cause additional challenges when implementing WR but I'd rather have a less weather capable lens that I actually want to own... Truth be known, I'd rather have a 50 1.2 than a 45 1.4 so I'm probably not in the market for this anyway and will go back to watching prices on 35+ year old glass instead.

movie maker lenses fullfill other demands than those for photographers. This may lead to lower produced numbers and other specs.

Since until now movie making is not a stong territory of Pentax cameras I don‘t think many Pantaxians will buy it ... if it really will be availlable in K mount some day.

I'm not in the market for one either. To me, the photo variant looks like a by-product of a cine-first product, where this lens makes a lot of sense in their range. E.g., the barrel looks larger in diameter than needed for photographic needs, but could be a consequence of making them the same for the cine lenses.

If it's better in all respects than Samyang 50mm F/1.4 (and I'm pretty sure it is), then it will be a very good choice for shooting nighttime landscapes with milky way.

Not on the market for this lens, but I have to say that the aesthetic design of the barrel is gorgeous.

I hope they went for lovely rendering and creamy OOF transitions instead of surgically accurate sharpness.
