I've really been wanting a wide angle lens for my K10D, so I was trying to weigh my options between the Pentax 12-24 and the Sigma 10-20, as well as considering just getting a Pentax 10-17 now for special effects shots and putting off the rectilinear decision a bit longer. I may end up doing just that now since when I start looking again I see this lens announced, which I really feel I have to give a shot, and a Pentax 11-16 f2.8 lens (like the current Tokina lens) speculated on. The Pentax may be announced by the time this becomes available if it really is going to be released (who knows at this point).

Will I ever get to the point of actually buying a lens?
I had the same dilemma and I ordered the 10-17. I think that it will be an interesting lens and at the 17 end, it has the same angle of view as the Sigma at 10mm. I will be interested to see how easily PTLens can remove the distortion.

It's now available to buy for the Nikon mount at B&H, so the Pentax mount should be available soon...
The nikon was released in Japan in September, only just becoming available. The Pentax is still not released in Japan, so I would guess 3-6 months before we see one.

Only review I could find so far. It has the Sigma lens a clear winner on a number of fronts.

VirtualEntity: Tamron 10-24 compared to Sigma 10-20
Don't rule off the Tamron just yet because if you read the review on the bottom, the guy said he received some test shots from his friend who also got a 10-24 and they were much better and found out from his supplier he may have got a bad copy of the lens and awaiting a replacement one.

It will be interesting to see what a re-test will reveal, but makes you a bit nervous about quality control. I use a Tamron 28-200 that I've had since K2 days, and I have no real issue with it in terms of picture quality - only my second Tamron in 30+ years of Pentax photography - so I was keen to read a review of this new lens.

I had been considering both the Pentax 12-24 and the Sigma 10-20, like a number of others in these forums, until the Tamron appeared. The Tamron's price here in Australia is attractive, but I have to admit that this review has dampened my ardour somewhat. If universally good reviews appear from now on, it may restore my interest, so I think I'll wait a bit before diving in and purchasing.

A statement from Tamron about quality control issues may be helpful, even if this is a rogue occurrence and sheer bad luck - they should be aware of how such a thing can affect product image and sales with a new offering.

It's not getting the best user reviews in Nikon land, unfortunately...

dpreview has a review of this lens.
there certainly is no "WOW" factor to it.
from user comments, it's not one of tamron's better performing lenses

I debated between Tamron 10-24 and Sigma 10-20. I ruled out Pentax early due to the retail price (way too high). I got used Sigma from one of forum member and I like it quite a bit. I just need to watch out for edge distortion (on indoor shots). Otherwise, my wife likes it too since it made her legs longer.
