Well, now... My dad has my DA18-135 on a "permanent loan" basis. Does that count?

Hi, my name is Bertrand and I have LBA.

I have bought only nine lenses so far in 2 years time :
...

I have everything covered. I paid attention to not duplicate everything with every new lens added to the collection. But still I am looking for new lenses. I am looking for a perfect walkaround, which would be WR, silent focus, great IQ especially at wide angle, fast aperture and a good focal coverage, light and cheap, but I have not found it. Lenses tempting me currently :
- Sigma 17-50 : has almost everything but WR and limited focal coverage
- Pentax DA 16-45 : rather cheap but no WR, limited focal coverage and no fast aperture
- Pentax DA 16-85 : costly, no fast aperture

Should I be tempted by a Limited wide angle, the "pixie dust" everyone is talking about, even if I have already 2 lenses doing a rather good job and complementing each other in term of field of view? Even then, which one, the DA 15 Limited, or the DA 21 Limited?

I dream of lenses. I want a lens. No, I want many lenses and cherish them. But I don't know which one. And I'm broke. And I'm currently in lockdown. And Amazon also has stopped delivering photo gear since saturday in my country to allow only orders of first necessity gear. Lenses apparently do not qualify.

I have LBA and currently suffering. Please help me.
DA 20-40 LTD f2.8-4
DA* 16-50 f2.8

The 16-50 is a little softer at 16 than it is at longer focal lengths but still respectable. The 20-40 is surprisingly good on crop offering a slightly wider than normal to slightly longer than normal range. It is big, heavy, and if you buy a screw drive converted lens to save money - not silent. It may be it of your price range and some hate sdm due to track record of failures.

I just added another lens a Sigma 24mm F2.8 AF Super Wide II to use primarily if I choose to use one of my SLR bodies

to give me another wide angle choice ( 24mm vs. 28mm )

[ if curious about my modest assortment of other equipment, please check my profile ]

_____________

don't tell the boss but I am still hoping to find a very good price on a nice FA 31mm Limited, MIJ with original caps and pouch

You're obviously not good at resisting and enjoy collecting. If you were considering an 18-270mm zoom, go to a therapist. But the DA 20-40mm, if you got the funds, as a prime believer, it's one of the zooms I do respect and would say "resist or resist not, there is no try". (Resist not.)

Hi. I would like to know the reasoning behind this assessments. Is this super zoom that bad? I can understand that such a large zoom may not lead to IQ comparable to primes, but up to a point to go to a therapist?

Technically LBA is an addiction and we should all go to a therapist in an absolute sens.

With reference to LBA, particularly subset OLAS, I decline to consider it a problem.

First, I did not intend to offend any users or fans of a super zoom. I have a colleague that spends her summers on safari tours and asked me for help because she wanted 600mm results without a 600mm on a DSLR. I recommended the Nikon P1000 with a 24-3000mm (35mm equivalent) built-in zoom. It was the solution for her and she's thrilled with that camera.

@drypenn has a fairly comprehensive inventory and my sarcasm was meant to say, getting one lens to replace or add to all those lenses is in fact confirmation of LBA and we all know we need "help" if we have LBA. (Assuming your therapist doesn't also have LBA.)

On the other hand, all of us with LBA feel we need help spreading the fever to anyone reasonable or apathetic to the cause. If our passion for lenses gives us pleasure or a joie de vivre, perhaps we should now and forever identify anyone without LBA as being a LIMP (less is more photographer)?
