Sigma lens, OneStop Digital customer service, Sigma again
Greetings to all dear photography colleagues!
I need a bit of your help here with warranties and stuff. I'm sorry that I wrote so much about my problem. I just wanted to be specific about my problem.
A month or so ago i bought Sigma 105mm Macro lens from OneStop Digital because it was cheap there and they had a quite good feedback. Awesome lens. Yet in several days i noticed a dust particle inside the lens. The dust particle wasn't like the usual dust you get on the glass (it was more like a piece of plastic), so I figured it came with the lens, so I just wrote back to OneStop Digital about the dust particle that was in the lens and ask if it is covered by warranty. They replied that dust is not covered by warranty and that I shouldn't be worried by that little dust particle. So I was not.
After a week of shooting I noticed that with narrower appertures (from f/13) my pictures do show quite obvious signs of that dust particle. Also, I checked warranty info that came with the lens. International warranty slip was blank (buying date and other purchase info missing), even though they do claim on their website that this lens comes with international warranty. Also, In warranty conditions it was clearly stated that warranty does not apply if the dust was sucked in during usage. That not being the case, I emailed them again, telling about the problem. They told me that Sigma does not honour International warranty and I'll have to send the lens back to China (from UK), although if Sigma will ask for a fee for cleaning the lens, I will have to pay for both cleaning and postage. Now that's ridiculous.
Then I emailed Sigma. They told me "all lenses leave us wrapped and unopened so no dust can enter before use" and also that I have to contact my retailer if the lens did arrive with dust. Which I already did.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? How can I get Sigma clean my lens?
