I just ordered the 16-85.
Excellent news Jim. No doubting that you will enjoy your new toy mate.
I know for a fact that you have a couple of feline models that need their " mug shots " updated.

I wonder how he'll do with the expectations, with most of us expecting him to be be happy and brimming with enthusiasm.

Now all the promoters will be waiting to see if he likes it, and all the nay sayers will be waiting to say "I told you so." I know how this works.

You may never find out because, as you all know, I rarely say what's on my mind.

Ya, you expend a lot of energy maintaining that "je ne sais quois" mystique.

After eliminating the Sigma it comes down to the 20-40 vs 16-85.
The 20-40 gives me no capability beyond convenience that I don't have. at 20 it's only 1/3 stop faster than my 21 Ltd and at 40 it's a full stop slower than my 40 Ltd, and in the mid range about 2 stops slower than my 31.
OTH
The 16-85 gives some advantage over my Sigma 18-250. It's wider by more than 10%, it's lighter, it's WR. Besides that, though I'm happy with the sharpness of the 18-250 the 16-85 is apparently about as sharp for a normal zoom as you can expect; at least in a price range mere mortals can afford.

Hm. I think I just talked myself into a 16-85.
Are YOU sure ? Havent we been right at this same point recently ? Can you say Deja vu …..

You really need help.
The 16-85 is just a lens. The 20-40 Limited is a beautiful object you just want to handle.
Eloquently stated ! I consider the 20-40 a "Masterpiece" , and the 16-85 comparatively as a nice hunk of plastic and glass.....lol

May you be very happy with your new lens! If you will share your experiences with it, and your evaluations, many here will find your assessment of interest.

Don't think too hard ! Have you ever had thoughts of giving the DA 55-300 PLM a whirl instead of these two lenses ?
Its actually a MUCH easier choice and you can always come back and nut this out later over the DA 20-40 or the 16-85 ?.....

If he's starting over, you'll get all the DA 18-135 17-70, etc. guys back. Once you eliminate lenses, never go back.
