Pentax 67 55mm, 120mm; TiltRokr; Infrared

I finally got a chance to get out and try some infrared with a Sony a7rii full spectrum converted camera. I'd found in preliminary tests that most of my lenses were hotspotting and it seemed the newer the lens the worse the IR performance. The dfa lenses (esp. 70-200 2.8) were the worst, but the lensbaby velvets and zeiss zk 25mm and 35mm weren't all that great either. I took the 25mm along to have something wide but it hotspots after f5.6.

The best performers, in fact almost perfect were the pentax 67 55mm and 120mm lenses. I had previously tried out the Pentax 67 100mm macro and this worked well so I had high hopes for the other 67 lenses and wasn't disappointed. I was hoping the 120mm in soft focus might mimic the "glow" of the old kodak film but at least on structured subject matter like barns I found the sharper versions more to my liking. To bad there is nothing rectilinear wider than 45mm for the 67 system. The 120mm is a bit long for most landscapes. If anyone has experience with using 645 lenses for IR I'd enjoy hearing your results.

For those interested in the TiltRokr adapter I found the shift works well in the field either in the horizontal or vertical format -- my adapter is a bit stiff so actually shifting the lens required a little force which sometimes moved the camera or tripod and forced a redo. Tilt on the other hand is extremely annoying because access to the screw loosening the tilt function requires you to first shift off axis to get access to it. If a longer screw were available it would make the tilt function much more useful. I would have like to be able to tilt the lens ever so slightly sideways in order to get a receding wall to pop into focus but I couldn't figure out a way to do this with the adapter.

These are all with the 850nm filter and run through LR6, PS 6 and SilverEfex.

Annoyingly the Sony does not record the lens focal length even if you input it manually for the shake reduction system which is a really nice feature of the K-1. Also the Sony does not allow multi-exposure which I've found effective using the Lensbabies on the K-1, shooting one shot at F16 for sharpness and then overlaying an F2.8 or F4 glow effect. The K-1 does spoil ...

1. Pentax 67 120mm at F8 (very little soft focus)
2. Pentax 67 55mm at F11 or F16
3. Pentax 67 120mm probably at F5.6 or 6.7. Compare with next.
4. Pentax 67 120mm at F11 or F16
5. Pentax 67 55mm
6. Pentax 67 120mm probably at F8 or F11. 2 shot pano shifted horizontally.

Great images.
I use DFA* 50/1.4 wide open on Pentax K-5, converted to 640 nm infrared. It does not have hotspot and is SHARP, even autofocus works through the view finder and it is correct with some minor focus adjustment.
I use DFA 15-30 f2.8 too at different apertures - no hot spotting
Here are some examples: landscape 25 mm f8, portrait 50 mm f1.4
