Just three lenses, your pick?

Imagine you could have any three, and only three, Pentax lenses to use for a year. No restrictions on just one camera, however. Which lenses would you pick?

(Thinking...)

(Thinking...)

Now that you've chosen, here's my ideal three lenses- and two cameras:

DA 15 Limited- a wide wide 22 eq. on the K3, easy to carry and afford and fun to use
FA 31 Limited- mount it on the K-1 and forget about it. Crop to 47mm as required.
DA 50-135- it lives on my K3 now, seems like a perfect lens so far (75-202 eq.)

There's nearly a 10x focal length range covered by three lightweight lenses of top Pentax quality, weighing 1219 grams altogether. If I need something longer, I have a DA 300. If it's wet, a DFA 28-105, also my one-lens solution for either camera.

Any other proposals? I know we'll hear about the Three Amigos, but I need more range.

Well the OP chose 5 lenses to use in 2 bodies/different formats. I think it's gotten a bit beyond the original proposal...

This will end up with everyone just posting what's in their bag. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

If I were using only my K-70's I could adequately cover all my needs with my Sigma 17-50, DA*50-135, and DA*200. The K-70 has plenty of headroom for judicious cropping as needed.

I've not used the K-1 long enough to form a good opinion. At the moment I'd say the Pentax 12-24, HD FA50, and Tamron 80-200 would suffice, but 6 months from now I may think differently.

If I could have only one camera? That's easy:
One of the K-70's.

I'll pick from my existing lenses.

On my K-3 II, I would be happy with these three:
  • HD Pentax-DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 Limited
  • Pentax DA* 50-135mm f/2.8
  • Pentax DA* 300mm f/4.

My 2018 travel kit consisted of a Pentax K3 body + DA 12-24 mm f/4, FA 35 mm f/2 and DA* 60-250 mm f/4 before I learned to use adequately my new K1.

With the Pentax K1 on the road in 2019, I brought along the FA 20 mm f/2.8, DFA 28-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 and the FA* 80-200 mm f/2.8 for landscapes.

With the Pentax 645Z, I always carry at least the FA 45-85 mm f/4.5, the FA 80-160 mm f/4.5 and the FA 150-300 mm f/5.6 but I have 25 lenses (67, A 645 and FA 645) that fit on it.

And never forget the solid Manfrotto 028 tripod.

Regards

Juding by usage, it would have to be

1) 100mm macro (doesn't matter which iteration, though mine is an F) on K-3
2) FA-31mm Ltd on K-1 - love it
3) tough call, but it would probably have to be the 70-200/2.8, Not tough in the sense of totally loving the lens, just in terms of hich I use most, so which I'd miss most.

I haven't used mine for portraiture yet. That's why I said my choices might change in a few months.

I've bought and sold the 28-105 twice so far, but before having a K1. Now I wish I'd kept one.

If I HAD to choose it would be
55-300 PLM for BIF etc
18-135 for walkaround
Sigma 10-20 3.5

But I would definitely miss my Sigma 50-150 2.8

K-3
DA 18-135, DA 55-300 PLM, DFA 100 macro 2.8, that was easy.

K-1
FA 28-105, DA* 60-250, DFA 100 macro - still easy.

If it's four lenses add the DA*55 1.4 to both packages.

When I'm traveling lite with the K-1, I sometimes take the following lenses:

FA 31
FA 43
FA 80-320

A trio for the KP might be:

DA 21 Ltd
DA 35 Ltd
DA 55-300 PLM

Okay, I'll bite. DA" 11-18mm (which I don't have), DA 20-40mm Limited (which I also don't have). Finally, and this one I do have, the Pentax-A 35-105mm, which impresses me every time I use it.

Sorted.
