first venture into M42 land

I have gone over to the dark side, and bought an M42

I have resisted LBA for a long.....long............long time, but thought I would get one to play with.

is it a keeper?? SMC-Takumar 35mm F2. Dumb question actually, answer is obvoius.

I justify this by not having anything that fast already at 35mm.

one thing I noticed, is that my *istD, which is usually very good on metering with K mounts, seems to meter this about 1 stop low. Anyone else had this observation?

Welcome to everything that is M42.
As you probably know there is a decent sized thread on the Takumar club.

As for metering on DSLRs it depends on a different models ... and some of the lenses as well (I have differing results with different lenses) ... and I think the focussing screen on different models can change results as well).

I have only used mine with my K10D ... and on the odd occasion I'll get over-exposure more than anything ... although in M-mode it is easy to adjust and take the shot again (with very minor adjustments).

All i can say is enjoy ... once you start with them ... it's hard to stop really. But the great thing is affordability ... and superb quality (both in build and image quality).

I can safely say these lenses make a n00b photographer like me look half decent actually ... it's hard to take a crap shot with these old beauties.

Here's a quick and dirty shot of a Bottlebrush flower I took near work

yes and I could join this, along with the "K" club, the "M" club, the "Tammy" club, and if they ever launch them, the "SIG" club, the "Series 1" club the "Power Zoom club" etc......

thanks for the response, and yes I saw the other thread, it is just a little long.

over exposure on the K10D is a real issue with K mounts also, when stopped down past F5.6.

This lens also gives the K10 Problems, which is why I used the *istD to play with it. I checked it out at every F Stop and on the *istD it has slightly increasing exposure as you stop down, like many lenses seem to (about 1/2 stop from wide open to min apature), but it also seems to meter consistently 1/2 to 1 stop low, which surprised me a little, because the *istD has been so good on other lenses.
