It may be possible to remove the flange entirely and avoid the hacksaw. Link to Hin's post on this:
I looked at that before I started. The Ricoh I had wasn't constructed the same way. The flange was not a separate part, it had to be cut.

My suggestion is to go w/ one of those AF ones made by Pentax, Tamron, or Sigma. They are quite cheaper than those much hyped Tokina/Vivitar/Voigtlander/or whatever MF 90~125mm macro lenses, and they are easily available new or used.

I myself still have the A50/2.8 macro and A100/2.8 macro, but mostly for collector purpose, not because they are far better than those AF ones, especially the A100/2.8 macro.
No pun intended, but....

This is clearly a suggestion in you own best interest... how credible does it make the advice?

I used to have a kiron 105/2.8A macro lens. I have replaced it by a Sigma AF. Find myself never using the AF feature ...

Here's a trivia question, what macro lens took this uncropped shot (no peeking the exif)?
1) a 50mm macro
2) a 100mm macro
3) a consumer zoom lens (17-70mm)

Didn't peek. The only thing I can tell is that the angle of view and the long DOF tells me this could very well be a zoom lens picture.

I have the Ricoh "P" 105 f2.8 macro and the 70-210 f3.9 macro lenses. I have no problems with any pin's or the flang. It seems to be the same as a Pentax flang.

Here is a shot of the 105
