D FA* 85mm f/1.4 Users Discussion Thread

Now that the new lens is shipping, it is probably appropriate to have a users thread dedicated to it in the SLR lens forum so that new owners can discuss it. It looks like our friends in the EU are going to get first crack at it, as it apparently has already shipped to stores in Europe (France, anyway), with us North Americans sidelined until next week. For a few days anyway, we can look on enviously as our compatriots from the Old World enjoy their new tools/ toys and hopefully give us more of an idea of what it is capable of in their hands, what they like about it and, if anything, what they don't like.

I would like to see user's thoughts on how the lens handles, photos taken with the lens in varying situations, and obviously, it is going to be compared to other lenses in it's focal range. I know I will be comparing it to the M85/2, A*85/1.4 and FA 77/1.8 LTD and posting pictures from all four lenses.

And please, we've had two threads about this lens closed because of hijacking, so could we please stay on topic and keep this thread running.

No ship date on mine yet but I’m third in line. Something similar happened with the DFA50/1.4, but I got it a couple days after North America release.

I plan to spend some time getting accustomed to the lens and run some ad hoc comparisons with the K85/1.8 and Auto-Takumar 85/1.8, and of course the 77 Limited old coatings.

Got an email from Customer Service. No expected ship date. Don’t know when product will be available again. Order canceled.

I’ll buy it when it is available in stock somewhere.

You might be interested to see a crop of the bench area of this shot:

I don't think there is much doubt on the sharpness of this lens (!)

Going to ask for a lens club. Who's in?

I'm hoping mine ships before that, but another day has come and gone with no new lens happiness.
Tomorrow is our national birthday, so no new lens happiness tomorrow. Maybe Thursday will bring joy to my heart, put a spring in my step, and give me new lens joy.
