I have the 100/4 M and I don't think I have the same problem but maybe it's related. I don't have a fog or haze. Mine is more of a swirl of discoloration if the coating behind the front element. I don't see any real effect to the images though. It does kill the resale value though.

This happened with my K 55 f2, I only saw it earlier this year but it's been slowly losing contrast for a while now. Since I paid 24 dollars for it back in 2013 I think it's paid itself off... I think I couldn't fix it if I tried.

But it's good to hear some people can keep these lenses going!

Maybe this is the same problem on my 100/4 macro. I took a picture of it, under bright sun so it's a bit exaggerated. Also 2 pics, first one with 100/4 M and the second with 100/2.8 Macro WR. Both taken at 1/50 f/5.6 ISO 400 on a K-70. Not much difference in the images.

I have the M100/4.
Great lens, but mine also has a blue foggy hue to it which in turn leaves a blue hint on my photos.
A real shame.

I do see a pretty significant difference in both detail and color. The tobacco leaf veins and texture in the second image (100WR) are clearly visible while the M100 can't quite resolve those. The color is also more vibrant and clean on the 100 WR IMO.

Thanks for the comparison photos. I'd not seen those done before and would be helpful for those contemplating one or the other.

Of course, I ran to check mine, but thankfully no haze. There is a metric ton of internal dust, but no haze. I wonder if it's worth opening to clean out the dust? I don't feel like it's affecting image quality, but I've always thought that dust might serve as a seed for fungal growth. Knocking on wood while I recall that I've had no fungus in any of my childre... er, lenses so far.

Thanks a ton for posting the photos of your journey as you repaired your own lens! I wish I had more intestinal fortitude to do some of my own.
