I was going to say that I have seen several for sale here and on the FB Pentaxians group for under 200 dollars. Glad you found a replacement.
I am surprised at the number of these lenses offered for sale - cameras are typically not "kitted" with them - but I am glad that the OP found one.
My K-30 was kitted with a DA 18-55mm, but I purchased a DA 18-135mm almost immediately, and it has been my most used lens ever since {I did keep the DA 18-55mm as insurance, though}.

I am surprised as well. Although I have other fine choices (like the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM and Pentax DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 Limited) I would not want to be without my long-time DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6!

I'm glad that I bought another DA18-135 lens. I was very happy with my original since it was sharp and compact. It was my general purpose lens for the last few years. Prior to buying it, I used my DA 18-250 or my Tamron 18-300 XRDiAF lens. However, they were bulkier. In use, I found them all to be equally sharp and the Forum lens reviews seem to confirm this. Now I have to think about what to do with my non-focussing lens. Does it have any value?

It has value but to a narrow audience: someone willing to repair their own 18-135 with a different problem. It might work to sell it on eBay, properly described as broken, just because of the broad reach of potential bidders. The hood by itself has the most value because the lens is widely used and lots of people will lose the hood.

Thanks for the advice.

Just received my replacement lens from Japan. It was in mint condition and the total cost including taxes was $181. Shipping was free and took seven days. I took a few shots on my K70 and it performed flawlessly. Glad I didn't repair my broken lens since it would probably have cost well over $200 at Precision.

I own a Tamron 28-300mm lens and a Pentax 18-250mm lens. A comparison showed that they are just as sharp as the 18-135.

I had the Tamron version of the 18-250 for many years but I found the 18-135 quite a bit sharper across their common focal range. The 18-250 was reasonably good at normal-ish focal lengths (say 24mm-42mm), especially stopped down, but that happens to be the 18-135's strong point too and I would take the 18-135 for these lengths any day. At wider and longer lengths, I found the 18-135 much better (especially in the centre). Of course there is probably a fair bit of copy variation, but I don't think the ratings in the user reviews warrant a contrary conclusion - few of them actually make a comparison. Many people who are reviewing the 18-250 don't really have much to compare with, which is why I think the ratings are rather inflated. (Anyone who says "Great lens" hasn't used a Limited or star lens or a macro or any of the more recent zooms.) The prevailing view amongst those who have had both the 18-135 and 18-250 is similar to mine, that the 18-135 is much better:

I think you made a good decision to get another 18-135.

I've noticed quite a few on offer - a great buy at these prices IMO.

Hi Des, thanks for your comment. I clicked on the link in your message and was surprised to find that it was about a question that I had asked in this Forum 6 years ago asking for comparisons between the 18-250 and 18-135 lenses. Yes, you're right that most people thought the latter lens was sharper. That's what prompted me to buy the 18-135. In this thread I stated that I couldn't tell the difference between the two lenses and a Tamron 28-300 mm. I decided to go back to my collection of photos for the two Pentax lenses and I know agree that the 18-135 is in fact sharper for most of my shots. I use this lens most of the time but the extra reach of the 18-250 comes in useful for bird and insect photography.
