Macro Ricoh Shots

These were taken with 2 Ricoh Macro lenses in "P" mode with my K20D today, I was told that the "P" mode on the lense dosen't work like the "A" on the Pentax. Yet the camera adjust for the lighting. Can someone explain this to me? I guess I'm missing something. I know my "M" glass dosen't do this.

These are unedited just sized to post
This shot was with the Ricoh 70-210 f3.9 macro.

These 2 were with the Ricoh 105 f2.8 macro

I think Ricoh P does the same as Pentax A. I have a K/R lens that had the nasty jamming pin cut out; and when I move the aperture to "A/P", the camera recognizes aperture. Whoopla!

Do you have pictures of the lens mount? Is it a Ricoh branded lens? The only Ricoh P lenses I have seen did not have contacts that would match up with the contacts on a Pentax camera. There are third party lenses that have contacts for both Pentax and Ricoh cameras.

In general, Ricoh P mount lenses should work the same as an M mount lens or an A mount lens when not on the A setting. That being that any mode other than M will default of AV mode at maximum aperture (no stop down at exposure time).

Notice that I said "in general". The reason being is that there are some lenses from various manufacturers that have both the Ricoh coupling/contacts and the Pentax A contacts. If your lens has the Pentax A contacts, then happy day!

I have normal Ricoh mount lenses with the P setting and they work the same as M lenses, I have a Vivitar macro teleconverter which says P/K-A R-P/K mount which works as a teleconverter with the A contacts because basically it has both the Ricoh and Pentax A pins.

Isn't that Ricoh 105/2.8 macro just another reincarnation of the Kiron/Lester/Vivitar 100/105 2.5/2.8 macro lens. See statement in our own lens data base.
In that case it could have both A and P pins/contacts inherited from the manufacturer...they just printed Rikenon on it?

They both have this one pin that is in the same place that the contacts are on my auto lenses, as you can see in the bottom photo.

The pin on the Ricoh lens doesn't line up with anything on a Pentax camera except the AF screwdriver, briefly as you mount the lens. If it was the same as a Pentax A lens, you would be able to set the aperture with the dial on the camera in any exposure mode.

I think Steve's explanation is correct.

I also have a Vivitar 2X Macro teleconverter. It has the KA mount contacts on one side of the flange and the Ricoh contact on the other, as Mike described.

Here is a picture of a Ricoh 28-100mm f4 macro that I have.
There are no pins apart from the Ricoh connection which I removed after getting a previous lens stuck on my K10D.
It only works properly in manual mode with me changing the aperture via the lens, it will work in AV mode but will only shoot wide open.

Excuse the dust, I dont use the lens anymore

Anyone not using this lens anymore or owning a faulty one please sell it to me.
I have chance to repair it. Thanks!
