Asahi Pentax Super Takumar 200m 1:4

Hello All

I just made a blunder and bought this lens off ebay for what was, when I think of it, a suspiciously cheap price when i wanted to buy the Takumar 200mm 3.5, which I bought anyway for twice as much. Does anyone have any experience of the 1.4? I can hardly find a mention of it on the internet.

Cheers from NZ
Jon

The F4 version is actually quite common (and newer). Here's our database entry on it:

I used to have one back in my B&W film days and had some nice results from it, but that was a lonnngg time ago. Really well made lenses, I bet it still feels solid in your hands.

I still have a Super Tak 200 f4. While my Tamron SP 70-200 f2.8 is probably better in most regards, the Super Tak does have a nice look and is relatively small.

I have the Super Tak and SMC tak 200/4 as well as the Takumar preset 200/3.5.

The preset wins hands down. For an older lens it has less lateral CA than the newer design.. it is a pleasure to use. I find presets actually easier to use than later auto aperture lenses on a DSLR

I took these photos 9/28/2020 with my Super Takumar 200/4 on my K-r.
The lens is lousy wide open, semi-passable at f/5.6 and nearly excellent at f/8~13.
I’ve found this lens, and several other screwmounts in my collection to provide the best results on 10-16 megapixel cameras.
My K-r wears the M42 adapter all the time now.
