Need a GOOD UV Filter

Looking for a above average Filter for my Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. It's a 67mm.
I saw a B+W 67mm MRC UV 010M Filter NEW F-PRO Made in Germany for 43.90 with free shipping. What does the 010M mean?
Any other recomendations?

Jack,

I peeked into the B+W filter handbook and there it says that the 010 type is just a UV filter which does not take away any light :-)
I had one of these as F-Pro and it was the best filter I have used (glass and mechanical quality).

However, I have found that some things are easier to control with some step rings and some hoods and some caps. Don't know if this applies to you, but I've ended up in having a pile of filters I seldom use and a pile of the other things mentioned and I am always short of these.

You don't need the super slim version of a filter if you have a step ring to put the next size or two steps-up size on. Dito with the hoods and caps.
But hey maybe that's just me cause there is another pile of manual lenses :-)

I have a Marumi 67mm on my DA*50-135 . Very good stuff and cost less than B+W . Marumi is not very well known in US but quite popular in Europe or so I heard . Good luck .

I have always been pleased with the quality of German made Heliopan filters. Slim brass rings finished in black and with front threads, too. A little more expensive, but worth it to me. I get 'em from B&H.

I believe the B+W filters are very good. I bought a Hoya Digital PRO1 UV(0) and am very happy with it. No flare problems or any other problems whatsoever. They are not cheap but seem to be pretty advanced (multi-coating, very slim, black inner rim).

You have a fine lens and I'd make sure you don't lose performance by using a just above average filter. Try getting one of the best (which could well be from B+W), if you can.

Never heard of 'em. All we ever get here is Hoya and Schneider (B+W in the US)

I also use the B&W multicoated filters, and think they are very good and are not terribly expensive. The link below is the one I bought for my Tammy 28-75mm lens. All in all though, I tend to not use filters unless I really want them for protection at the beach or something like that.

OK thats the Glass Filter #010 and the one I was looking at is the #010M so what would be the difference? does the "M" version have some different coating. It's only 3 $ more.

I probably wouldn't use UV filters but I live about 200 yards from the water and there is always salt in the air from the breeze and waves creating a fine mist.

Judging from what I read in the B&W info, the M is a special coating that provides extra protection for the glass and makes it easier to clean--think multicoated.

The Amazon link I provided is for the 010M, it just may not be mentioned in the description. The box says 67 MRC 010M 70236 UV-Haze Filter. It's the B&W you want.

Hoya multicoated filters are considerably more difficult to clean than their standard models.
I'm not sure the same isn't true of B + W. I do like the B + W standard filters though.

We have a seller here that sells Marumi filters and the prices I have seen are very resonable. Although I haven't tried them yet. The dealer that carries them sells mostly Leica stuff and he said they are made by the same company that makes Heliopan filters. Claims they are good quality. I still need a CPL for my Tammy and this is the way I will probalbly go.

I have B+W UV on all my lenses.
