Wide angle zoom lens.

Pentax has a couple of indigenously made tele zooms. But still no wife angle ones. Why don't they make a couple of wide angle zooms, instead of rebranding lenses by other manufacturers.

Please explain....if part of the current line up then 15-30 & 24-70 for FF, in DA 16-85, 18-50, 10-17, 12-24, 17-70, 18-135 20-40
Plus all the pre-digital camera lenses such as the 20-35 etc.

Not sure how many of those are "rebranded"

They like to hear us whine and complain, perhaps? What are you shopping for that you prefer to not bear the stigma of Tamron heritage? (The Tokinas are rebadged Pentax.)

The 13-18 and 24-70 were made by Tamron to Pentax specification.

... 13-18? You mean the 15-30?

I wonder if either the 15-30 or 24-70 will get updates to keep them abreast of current Tamron offerings OR if Pentax will release their own lenses to eventually replace those. They really do fill needed spaces in the FF lens lineups.

Pentax are trying hard at the moment to release the new flagship aps-c DSLR. After that I expect they will be working hard on a new FF camera and a new MF camera. Some more FF primes are also wanted by many.

Why would you want them to make new versions of the 11-18 and the 15-30 both released within last 4 years ?

They did just release the DA*11-18 f/2.8 a year ago. That would seem to be the definition of a wide angle zoom. There is also the DA 12-24. What else is it that you want? Though I guess that those might be ultra-wide? So DA 16-85, DA 18-135, DA 20-40, DFA 15-30......... There are more wide angle zooms than I can fit in my camera bag. Or am I missing something?

What sensor size are you referring to?

Yes, that one! My regular eyeglasses broke and the reading glasses make some numbers harder to read. Neither of those lenses is on my radar, but I do know that both are made in Tamron factories. To tell you the truth, I think I conflated the DA* 11-18/2.8 (a stellar straight Pentax design) and got diverted by the Tamron rebranding aspect in the FF lineup.

I don't see any problem with the rebadges. I have the 15-30 and think it's an excellent lens. I would love Pentax to do something like a 17-28 or 16-35 or even update its older 20-40 so that filters could easily be used. At least the upcoming 21mm limited will fill this slot unitl other lenses can be released.

I don't think a lot of people would mind if Pentax rebadged the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 OSD and put some HD coatings on it....

If you're after a premium offering, definitely check out the new 11-18mm, which came out last year:

The Pentax 12-24 is based on the Tokina design. However, while the Tokina variant is noted for being terribly flare-prone, the Pentax controls flare pretty well thanks to the SMC coatings.
